Sanity -> Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 5:58:23 AM)

Could this be our future? It seems to be the direction we are heading.

Odd how we cant learn some lessons by looking at their trials and troubles, no?

Greece: Police clash with doctors

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Police in central Athens have used pepper spray to disperse protesting doctors and state hospital staff, in the latest protest against public spending cuts.

Riot police briefly clashed with scores of doctors and other demonstrators who tried to force their way into the Health Ministry. No injuries or arrests were reported.
...
Thousands of protesters are expected to gather in central Athens for a second day later Thursday, in a rally organized using social-networking sites and inspired by similar mass protests in financially troubled Spain.

Nope Ryans plan was rejected...
If medicare was privatised, you may well have had similar on your hands...

Aneirin -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 6:13:46 AM)

Kick in the police and refuse to treat them, as to assault medical professionals with weapons suggests medical professionals are worth nothing in the eyes of the police.

wow...never thought of it that way

Sanity -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 6:17:43 AM)

Greece and Spains current crisis is more comparable to the situation we Americans might face if medicare is expanded to cover everyone and then the government goes broke, Luce.

If health care is held as a right, by default doctors and other health care providers will be reduced to slaves.

Remember?

pahunkboy -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 6:21:28 AM)

We are not broke.  We fund 700 mil bases all over--- we are at war with everyone and everything.

Nope.  The police were not treating them as medical professionals, but as protesters attempting to trespass upon government offices. They were not acting as doctors at the time.  If the police broke up surgical procedures, that would be very different.

Are you suggesting that lawbreakers be given a free pass if they're doctors?

Aneirin -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 6:33:04 AM)

Doctors by their very education and abilities as those who can prevent ill health and the death of others by their skills should be listened to, for medical professionals are one of the cornerstones of any society, a cornerstone without which a society could quite literally die. But for doctors who normally would not get involved in such activities to do so, the situation must indeed be dire and perhaps it was common thought that if the last line of defense got involved, then the policy makers would listen, but it seems the policy makers are treating doctors with the same contempt as all other subjects, because they know doctors and indeed other medical professionals will carry on with their duties despite what comes at them through their very status as caring people.

Please correct me if I am incorrect on this, but I believe a government is set up by the people for the people, what people want the people get, not what the politicians think they need and don't need. Healthcare as you know is one of those very important needs that is in everyone's mind as without health, one is nothing and can be nothing quite literally.

You are correct. America has become the land of slaves...home of the greedy. Thanx for this OP.

I would prefer to keep all $335 million I made last year you know, being the typical risk averse, greedy capitalist scum and as it is I had to pay about 17-18%. Now if the country (govt.) could just go out and create more typical right wing incentives [sic] (give me additional tax breaks) I might...might create a few more jobs paying 35%.

Then you have enough stupid yet hard working stiffs to foolishly pay that 35% to pay for others health care. Lord knows I can't afford to pay for anyone's health care but my own. You see that way, we keep the economy just humming along...taxing the little people....not me. How's that ?

Let's raise taxes on doctors...that's the ticket. Come on...doctors make all that great money, they can afford it.

Sanity -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 7:04:20 AM)

Youre not making any sense, Luce - and heres why:

1. The United States government is already well beyond broke.

2. That leftists are seeking to expand medicare to cover everyone is no secret.

Lucylastic -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 7:13:57 AM)

Im not trying to make sense..
Im calling your opinion laughable and a joke
your playing fast and loose with the "facts" is just more willful ignorance on your part

mnottertail -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 7:16:03 AM)

LOL, the doctors are protesting the monitoring of payments thru national healthcare.  In other words, they are afraid that they will get caught embezzling and padding their bills.

And the neo-cons and other communists out here are supporting that sort of illegal gangsterism.

Sanity -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 7:17:34 AM)

I know youre not trying to make sense Luce, its no secret.

But uh... the facts are cold and hard. We are broke and leftists are still determined to expand the welfare state...

In other words, youre living in denial regarding the facts part.

You have that ass backwards Tom, the republicans are expanding corporate welfare at an alarming rate.

The democrats are trying to hold back the republican corporate socialist agenda.

It's in the news.

ArizonaBossMan -> RE: Greece: Police clash with doctors (5/26/2011 7:20:10 AM)

Governments must take it in the gut and be punished for not giving raises and raises and more time off and more benefits for government workers. Dear Leader understands this and will give more and more in the future. He has a stash and controls the printing presses. Need more cash? He can print some, muchachos. NO PROBLEMO (a bit of Spanish lingo for our illegal immigrants). Just demand demand, even if you aren't a citizen, and Dear Leader will GIVE GIVE GIVE! DEAR LEADER FOR KING!!!

I reckon a doctor can't refuse treatment of a patient on political grounds. Read somewhere before that would be against the Hippocratic Oath.

Obama Can’t Afford GE’s Immelt

GE's slogan is "putting imagination to work." And the company, headed by President Barack Obama's competitiveness council chairman, did just that when it came to avoiding taxes.

Here’s a tip on how on companies can compete in the global marketplace, from the chairman of President Barack Obama’s Jobs and Competitiveness Council: Don’t pay any taxes to the U.S. government.

The council is led by Jeffrey Immelt, chairman and CEO of General Electric. Today, the New York Times reported that GE, which posted worldwide profits of $14.2 billion last year, managed to avoid paying taxes to Uncle Sam. That’s partly because most of its profits were earned overseas. But it’s also due to GE’s army of lobbyists and tax experts, which have pushed for and used a variety of tax breaks to reduce the company’s tax liability.
