Now there is a thread like this already, but it deals with the causes. Fuck the causes let's get down to tha the "mares" themselves. Actually have you ever looked into the origin of that word ? So now, instead of asking for contributions without giving my own, I wil give my own now. But the thing is, unless a discussion ensues about a particular mare, we want to keep it short.

One. Quite recent. I went outside, my south neighbors were out and there was this creature that spun. It was somewhat like a spyder, but had long tentacles that spanned our yards. My neighbor said "Watch out". but when it "got" me I hardly felt it. The tentacles had what looked like an electric arc to the ground, but it "got" me and I was just fine.

Two. I was carrying a bunch of stuff into the house, it was not my current house, it was nice. I was carrying something in, groceries ? On the way in the biggest (I think) wasp or something flew in the door. It started to glow and became my Woman. It said it was timeless and just wanted "experience" or something like that. My concubine, my spouse. My Wife. What it was is a timeless being that goes from place to place, and lives out lives, just out of curiousity. Has no conception of death or years, why would it ?

Three. Now this is a really bad one, because it is personal. Actually I haven't even thought of it in years, partly because I don't want to. I am given a young animal, I think a puppy. I am a rich MF, and I tell my people to put him in, whatever, one of my pens or something. They did and I was supposed to be back in a certain amount of time, but oh well, things hapened. As I was partying out of town and all that, this little thing whatever it was, was so weak and pathetic when I got back it, whatever. And to know it was my fault. This one here is not about some alien ass motherfuckers, it is about me. It's personal.

Some psychonalysis is inevitable here, but if we can keep it ot minimum, this thread could be THE repesitory for such things. In fact if we refrain these armchair analyses, this could be an interesting thread.

I'm in bed and there's a noise in the hall. I go to check it and there's a big dog-like thing there (think Sanity's avatar). It rushes at me and I run away, there's a door that locks at the end of the hall (I always have the impression that it's my parents' room). No matter how fast or long I run I never get any closer to that door and the safety it offers, and the dog-thing keeps getting closer and closer.

So far I've always woken up before it catches me.

i think this is a great idea for a thread. .

i have them so often, sometimes 2 in a night, that they are all jumbled together in my mind. they all generally involve a lot of blood (a la angel heart) and much weirdness. being cannibalized alive, raining acid (not the fun kind), going blind (this is a common theme), shit like that.

like i said on a different thread, you wouldn't like it inside my head.

Well. I'm alone in the house at dusk. There's a knock at the door. It's Wil Smith inviting me to a house party, except he has this giant beetle sitting on his shoulder. I mean giant, it's like 2 feet across. And all the while we're talking, he's being his charming Wil Smith self and the beetle is just.... staring at me. It knows what I'm thinking. It knows about that time in 5th grade when Billy Mitchell and I assembled a colony of beetle folk and began a beetle society amidst the sandpit. And how we treated them really well for 40 minutes until we got bored and burned them all to death with a magnifying glass and some kindling. While Wil is regaling me with tales of all the cool people he knows and how they'll be at this house party the beetle begins to flex it's wings as though it's preparing to leap - and I'm not wanting to be rude and cut the conversation short, but this beetle is really freaking me the fuck out and Wil claps his hand on my shoulder and the beetle LEAPS FOR MY FACE then turns into my latest subbie girl who throws her arms around me and says "I love you daddy" and then we have pancakes.

I used to have recurring nightmares about being in a car & it runs off the road into water & I can never get the doors or windows open & eventually I drown.

After I started riding a motorcycle, I would have dreams where I would fly through the air, knowing that when I landed I would be dead. The last one was riding on a bridge & they open it & I can't stop in time & fly off the end. Not long after that, a little old lady made a left turn in front of me & I left the bike & went flying through the air & stopped when her car stopped on my ankle. I hate it when nightmares come true!

In the last decade or so, I've been made aware that I sometimes yell in my sleep, but I'm not aware of it & when awakened & told I'm having a nightmare, I have no memory of dreaming at all. Because of this, I have to warn people when I sleep with them or in their home, so they don't think I'm being killed or that they have to do something to help me. Weird.

Mine was about a spider...

I tended to always wake up due to seeing a spider near me and gosh did spider make me run as a kid (these days they have to be bigger or wear an hourglass on their body to make me run) but during childhood already harmless normal long leg house spiders would make me run...over the years I learned that those were the replacement about the actual problem I had which I could not talk about as a kid...so in case someone would have ever noticed my nightmares (which was never the case apart from myself) then that someone could have figured out that the spider is only a replacement for the real problem I was dealing with...

as mentioned in the other thread I still have on average two occassions a year where I suddenly see a spider where is none (happened a while ago when I was napping on the sofa and thought one was running along on my laptop...when of course there was none).

Anyhow, thats the only one and knowing how it affected me as a kid over eight years of my life it was sufficient for me...

Others where I felt to suddenly fall down whatever hill were never long in my memory.
