lisaSea -> Information, please.... (5/13/2006 7:16:32 AM)

Greetings Masters, Mistresses and slaves...

This is a bit unusual for me, I normally stay within the confines of the Gorean Lifestyle board, so I hope this post is received well *smiles*

Master has given me a task.  We are moving from California and our situation is such that we really have a choice of anywhere in the US to move to, so I have been given the task of finding a location.  Master has said to remember my allergies and love of warm weather, (Calif. girl yanno), but also to keep in mind that we want a small town feeling, (he is tired of crowded city living), within driving distance of a big city for employment.

My choices and information will be presented to him for final approval, and I am coming here to hopefully find out a bit more before I do this.   I have narrowed it down to Des Moines Iowa, or the area around Ottawa, Illinois, with Spokane Washington being in the mix too.   My problem, is that while I can research jobs and some city info on the web, there is alot not available from this distance.

I would be most grateful if anyone from these areas drop me a line privately and share the weather on a yearly basis (I am trying to avoid high humidity and icky days, lol).   Snow is not an issue, unless it is piled 10 ft high!

Thanking everyone for this slightly strange request and hoping no one is offended by what I ask.   This forum seemed a way to reach lots of people from all sorts of areas!

Best of wishes,
lisa{Sea's}

Those places don't seem to "warm" to me.

I don't have anything to offer beyond the fact that you need to be sure to research things like property taxes, luxury taxes, cost of living, sales tax, if there are children involved - school systems.  It's cool that you can live anywhere and you are given the task of determining possibilities for where this might be.  Good luck!

You can try http://weather.com  Scroll down to Averages and you can see the average highs and lows by month, as well as the average percipitation.  I dont think it has that info for humidity.  There is also a pollen forecast, but I think those are on a day by day basis.  As much as I would love to meet you and your Master, if you're trying to avoid humidity, I know you won't be moving anywhere near here.

Thank you for the information :)  I shall check out the sites when time is a little more plentiful.

Thank you krys!  I actually thought about Florida for the warmth factor but it was quickly squashed by Master, lol   While I adore the sun, he is not partial to it, so trying to locate a climate that is warm, but not too warm, is proving a challenge.

krys I had no idea you lived in Florida also. Lisa I know you ruled it out but I have to tell  you, Florida is the best place on earth to live. I absolutely love it here.  Good luck with your plans!

If you're really wanting small-town feel and low humidity - try Northern Arizona.  Flagstaff is nearly perfect.  It's not terribly small, but you can't beat the weather.  Want smaller?  Go with Snowflake - a beautiful little town in the White Mountains in the Northeast corner of the state.  Or even Globe wouldn't be bad, and it's near Roosevelt Lake, which is a fabulous camping/fishing spot.

Shame about ruling out Florida, we DO have shade here and air conditioners and  the ocean breeze is awesome. I am on the east coast but I do love the west coast(of Florida).

I'm a California girl too.  Places that appeal to me include Nashville TN and Portland OR.  Both are temperate, medium size towns and wonderfully green and pleasant.

Northern Virginia... Alexandria, Fairfax, etc...
Taxes aren't terribly high, and all sorts of exciting places to go and things to do in DC if you like people of all races (from almost every country on the planert), if you don't however, that is the last place you want to go, lol.   M

There are resources for climate. NOAA for instance.
Consider not only the area you will live in, but how varied the surrounding areas can be. It is wonderful to be able to take a fairly short trip to experience a different climate and terrain.
Living on the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains can be nice for variety. Not too long a trip to visit the Pacific coast, or the flatlands further east. Some incredible scenery and depending on how far south, a variety of seasons while still overall mild extremes.
Washington state is nice. I lived in sothern BC Canada for a couple decades. But it can get very damp and gray for prolonged periods. The bonus is the countryside is alive all year round. And if you like to ski and maybe go sailing on the same day....
