I don't listen to classical music all that often, but it moves me in a way that no other form of music can. The first time I heard Miserere by Gregorio Allegri, I cried. Perhaps it was the mood I was in, but I closed my eyes, put my head back, listened and felt the tears run down my cheeks. Even if it doesn't move you in the same way, it is definitely a beautiful piece of music. I suppose I should thank Simon Blaise for it. It was on his web site that I first heard it. Apparently he liked to scene to it, from what he described on the page. I don't think he has it on his current site though. Not a particlulary one, nope...and whilst I don't have any classical music at home on tape I did grow up with when playing some instruments as a kid and do enjoy to listen to it sometimes when I stumble accross it due to it being on radio or on TV...

I'm not real sure this qualifies as classical, but it is one of my favorites. I don't remember who wrote the words, but the music was written by Lev Knipper, a russian composer that wrote a number of different symphonies. I believe this was the last song from his fourth which was written in 1934. The title is Plaine Ma Plaine. I don't think that I could pick a favorite. I love all music & taught myself to play the piano at 5. As far as I was concerned, classical was the only music that should be played on the piano. Until I had a music teacher when I was a teenager who insisted that I learn to play Bumble Bee Boogie. I expanded my rule about the piano to include jazz, ragtime & boogie. As an adult, I finally began to enjoy rock piano & keyboard.

I love the classics. I went to a 4 string one night with Bo and it was lovely (Bartok). Sometimes I ask the cab driver to put the radio on the channel when I get to Austin. I can play some of Beethoven (Ode of Joy). If I can find sheet music, I tend to buy it. I wish Lizard can go to a musical school where she can expand her skills (she can play viola, violin, keyboard). She wishes to work on her dance skills because she wishes to work on Broadway (I knew that trip to NY was going to get in her head). I hope she gets her diploma after this week. She just needs $100 from the home school site. Travis and I will pay $50 each and she can find out what to do to get her enrolled in college. I wish she becomes a linguist (she is good in Latin and French) and she wants to learn German (thank goodness that campus has German). Gotta go. too many things to do and so tired to get them in a time frame.

FR For me Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, second movement, the addagio (which was redone brilliantly by Miles Davis & Gil Evans on the seminal "Sketches of Spain" album) and probably Beethoven's third symphony in E-Flat major, (the Eroica) Opus # 55. There are others, but those two get me the most. Classically, Some Knucklehead in NJ

Some I can think of offhand...."Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber; "Spartacus" and "Sabre Dance" by Aram Khachaturian; "None But The Lonely Heart" by Tchaikovsky; the 3rd movement of Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony (you might recognize the melody line as Eric Carmen's "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again"); Requiem by Gabriel Faure.... And around the holidays, you can't beat the Hallelujah Chorus in a big cathedral with the all the organ stops full out :)

Vide Cor Meum I fell in love the song 2 long years before I learned the words . . . having been in the music industry, I was in awe of its perfection. Rarely can a piece of music convey such emotion. Even without knowing the words it made me feel a range of emotion from sorrow to a feeling of peaceful resolve. It became an anthem I would play everyday in the car on the way to work because it charged me emotionally and reinforced my leather heart . . . it "put me on my Domly square". Imagine my surprise when I finally stumbled across the lyrics. i recently stumbled across a classical music channel on my radio, much to my delight and surprise! Seems it's mostly either pop/top 40-ish/etc., which is ok, but gets repetitive, or the spanish/mexican stations. i'll definitely be listening to this new station more often, though! [:)]

Very moving music, but very sad, so if you're one who slits your wrists often, perhaps you should avoid those pieces. Concerto for Harpsichord and String Quartet, Op. 40: I. Allegro molto (Harpsichord Version), by Henryk Górecki is fun in a sinister sort of way. I'm a bit of a sucker for harpsichord.

I had a completely different vision of what the link led to. But after seeing your post, I decided to visit. You're right, it is a wonderful presentation. I wish he would tour, he's very energetic and so completely entertaining. :)
