I was thinking it would probably be easiest to describe a dominant/submissive relationship, if one could refer to a list of TV shows that follow that mentality, even if not BDSM in nature. Was thinking a list could be created by people on the site.

Just state a TV show, a normal one, be it cartoon or live action. Then follow it with a short blurb that explains your reasoning for this.

I'll start:

Dr. Who

I started thinking about it and the first example that comes to mind is Dr. Who. The Doctor is the character with the dominant personality who brings a host of varied people as "traveling companions" of which most have submissive personalities. This show isn't sexual in any sense, but the sub/dom roles are very clearly defined, especially in the newer seasons.

I don't entirely agree. What about Donna Noble? Definitely not submissive in any way, shape or form. I would even suggest Rose Tyler is more switchy than sub.

The new Doctor Who - as he is a total pussy and his sidekicks are generally gormless, I'd say that was one fucked-up little triad, lol

But what about Fawlty Towers? Basil and Sybil were classic

I was actually referring to the Matt Smith "Dr. Who" when I said the "newer seasons." I agree that the one before was a bit lacking in the dominant department.

NOOOO - Matt Smith is a total pussy! I can't even bring myself to watch the programme, and I'm someone who as seen every episode of the good Doctor that has ever been made. Even the dreadful film with that McGann bloke. Smith couldn't dominate an argument, lol

I'd like to see him hook up with Donna Noble - she'd have him in a collar and butt plug within the first five minutes

He's insane, silly, and whimsical, but he has control when it matters.

If you haven't watched any of the 6th season, you really should. He is much better in that than the 5th season. One of the more recent episodes was written by neil gaiman, and was a real treat to watch (title is the "Doctor's Wife" and it worth seeing even without the rest of the 5th or 6th seasons).

Oh, to a mod. This thread is pretty derailed. It would probably fit better in the off topic discussion at this point.

I try every week to watch it, but never make it past the first 20 minutes. His assistant is annoying - although her relationship with her husband is pretty D/s, come to think of it!

I'll wait until the next incarnation, I think. I have my box sets of other Doctors to keep me going until then

I'm not touching the Dr Who argument, since none of them ever appealed to me as dominants, although I fell in love with K-9 all those years ago.

But not d/s but bondage and sadism, Snidely Whiplash on the old Dudley Doowright cartoons. Tying Nell to the railroad tracks and then laughing evilly. Of course, Dudley never took advantage of her when he rescued her.

Star Trek...Next Generation.

Captain Picard is SUCH a Dom. Riker is a total and utter subbie.

:)

ooooh, yes to to the Picard/Riker thing!

I'm now recalling that scene in Boston Legal when Alan Shore went all Dom on that woman (whose name I can't remember).

*smiles fondly...and moistly*...

The Office, with Michael Scott a perfect example of a Dom who needs control and should never be given it.

"Married With Children" although it was a bit flip flopped. Al Bundy liked to think he was the one in charge but it was really Peggy who wore the pants in that family. Maybe not that much different from a good many real life d/S relationships.

In the show House, Lisa Cudy, normally the alpha female in total control of her hospital domain, turns into a pile of subby she flesh when Dr. House is around. I love how their relationship is progressing (though I have not seen this years episodes, I have to wait until they are out on Netflix); how they have an easy (and sometimes not so easy) back and forth in terms of who is the strong one, who is the nurturing one, they compliment one another so well.

A great example of Fem domme/male sub is shown in Dexter. Dexter may seem like an alpha male, but his wife is the one in charge. All he has to do is know he's disappointed her, and he's subby toast on a stick.

I"m going to chime in on Dexter as well.

Deb and Lundy.

He was (in my mind) the perfect Dom. He lived as himself. He was completely self-assured and he held himself to a standard. He let her know the standard, and she was drawn to him, letting herself be vulnerable to him. By being the man he was, he attracted her to him. She couldn't stop herself. She wanted to please him.

She listened to the music he listened to, changed her lunch time, ate the kinds of foods he ate, and yet made it clear that she had to be the woman that she was.

Definitely D/s....

best,
sunshine

COME ON... James Spader... Sex Lies and Videotapes James Spader? The Secretary James Spader? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee tell me that man is a dom in real life. If he's not, he's been on my list of ... oh heck I forgot to add him to the list of people I need to ask permission to fantasize about if I'm going to be ethical. Hello? Mr. Spader. I have a garden that needs tending.

Too late Sunny - he's already the star of many of my X-rated nocturnal adventures!

Yes, it is indeed THAT James Spader. There was an episode when he ordered his gf to stand still, then he told her to take off her panties in a VERY Domly way.

Dammit...I need a cold shower...
