Before I get going, let me start by saying that I am completely biased here, that I abhor Ohio State athletics with pretty much everything I have as a human being.

That said, Jim Tressel, that lying, sleazy, hypocritical scumbag, has slunk off like a thief in the night, "deciding it was in the best interests of the school" to quit on a slow news day after point blank lying to his school, his immediate boss  the NCAA, the press and essentially everyone. The more that gets uncovered, the worse his program looks, 28+ kids now are reported to have traded memorablia for tattoos, ESPN is reporting that lots more sold autographed stuff for cash and it's looking like every OSU player was driving a fancy car w/o having paid for it, including Pryor being pulled over "test driving" different fancy cars multiple times over a 3 year period (Kinda a long time to make up your mind on what kind of car you really like, dontcha think).

Now, I can't really think of a scummier organization than the NCAA and I kinda suspect that all major schools and programs break the rules on a regular basis-collegiate athletics tend to make the mafia look like a clean line of work, but that's not my real beef here.
This is.
The facts as I understand them are that Tressel ran a dirty program, directly, and on paper and in defiance of his contract which stipulates that he must comply with NCAA investigators, lied to his bosses, the university president and the NCAA. He ran a fraudulent program and OSU is gonna end up being whacked with some serious penalties, which will cost the university, a state school that receives federal funds, millions of dollars over the coming years-money that will come out of taxpayer/students pockets AND HE'S GETTING A SETTLEMENT TO GO!

Think about it, apply the rules of your job to this scenario. If I made a mistake at work, committed fraud to cover it up (in clear violation of my contract), lied to the investigating body, got caught, gave my work and my boss a very public black eye, cost my company millions and severely damaged their immediate future functionality, I would be jettisoned so fast I would leave a bugs bunny type hole in the wall behind.
HTF can he get a settlement? This is taxpayer money. Am I the only one who finds this not just ludicrous but outrageous??

It's been entertaining to say the least.

I have been taking great joy in watching the numerous self righteous Big Ten fans and tOSU ones in particular muddle around with egg all over their face.

They've been crowing for years about how virginal white the Big 10 is and the SEC in specific are cheating pond scum.

Frankly, I'd like to see the U or at least the state do a clawback on the money they are gonna lose and charge the fucker either criminally or via the civil courts, if it's at all possible.
Do that once or twice and watch the NCAA change their act real fast, especially if you touch the cash.

Cheating I expect. Sleaze I expect (Hey, I worked at a U, I know how they work from the inside). I just can't believe that he's getting money to go. The sheer chutzpah of it amazes me, and I'm a pretty jaded guy.
I find that offensive as shit.

I thought I had read in an article a few days ago that Tressel's contract with OSU does not require them to pay him anything upon this departure.

It's not uncommon for tenured teachers to be unable to be fired, and to be paid to stay home.

However I take umbrage at your assessment of the entirety of the NCAA. My daughter's just finished college, including 4 years on a DIII team. Equestrians don't get this kind of stuff, nor do volleyball players. Only the money sports. She turned down a free ride at Ohio State, and point blank refused to speak to their recruiter.
