If NPR is doing so well , I guess they no longer need federal money to keeep operating.

The REAL thing to track here is advertising revenues. What class of advertiser is patronizing these shows? If they can't charge a premium for the ad space, the show is just filling otherwise dead air.

Radio as a media outlet for much is not that reliable, there was a day in time that I would spend 25% of my advertising budget on radio but the audience has become deluded.

Cable tv at less cost is a much better investment, and because of the nature of the shows being so specific you can target market them much better. Broadcast tv is still by numerical superiority

the absolute best for a less targeted audience.

With sports talk radio, oldies, soft rock, AOR,NPR, political talk, country music and the huge corporate ownership by Cumulus and others it just isn't a great advertising investment for most businesses.

Advertising is an expensive investment, trying to get the right message through the correct media is a larger challenge today than ever before, and radio is risky at best for most businesses.

As long as there are lots of folks with well below average intelligence, Right Wing radio will have an audience.

What did npr's ratings do over the same period?

NPR has enjoyed record highs, and that on top of a steady climb for the past two decades.

In the odd chance that I scan NPR - they are always doing a fund raiser which they need because SO MANY more people listen to them- and the cost goes up then.    I think they are agenda driven.  Pushing the global warming hoax.

Simple. Show me a conservative arguement made here (in the real world reason to believe sense, with premise and fact). Cuz I haven't seen any.

Not in the vituperative name calling slanted factless sense, I will show you uncountable of those. Remember, something not Joe the Plumber.

Record highs since October?

NM. It is relevant anyway because they didnt get any ratings bump due to the election. They were basically flat from Spring 2010 to Fall 2010

Of course talk radio is dyeing it's demise is proclaimed every presidential election cycle.  It was dead because Clinton was elected again because he was reelected.  It was dead because Bush was elected and again because he was reelected and now because we have Obama it is dead again.   Hmmm   maybe it fits Mark Twain's statement  "rumors of my death are greatly exagerated

Bullshit. Talk radio and Fox News was built on the back of Bill Clinton. Right wingers don't trust news sources that don't reinforce their world view.

Bullshit at your bullshit I say..........He was just paraphrasing what Rush has said before.

The popularity of talk radio and particularly Rush Limbaugh started and was well established before anyone who lived outside of Arkansas knew who Clinton was. Not only that but the rise and popularity of Rush and FOX is actually a result of the totally one sided liberal bias of each and every single television news network.

If there is a conservative slant to FOX and we know there is with Rush, there's just a couple back at ya.

farglebargle -> RE: Has Right-Wing Radio Run Its Course? - Business - The Atlantic Wire (6/1/2011 3:41:20 PM)

Rush Limbaugh is just another cheap Howard Stern wannabe. Always has been, always will be.
