That's a good point. If an online D/s relationship were limited to isolated incidents of text role playing then you hit the nail on the head. However, there is very much more to an online relationship, D/s or otherwise. Or can be, if the parties involved find they have a connection, or even just curiosity. There is a skill set that comes with being a Dom or a sub online that is unique (obviously a product of the digital interface and limited only by their creativity). I made the statement about experience not being a concern because I know, from my own modest amount of time online, and from others sharing with me, that being new to exploring D/s play in a vast online community, can feel a bit overwhelming. As though there is some right and wrong way to behave as a Dom or a sub and that everyone knows it but "me". At least that's how I felt (and still feel from time to time). Of course, it's simply not true, because, like any relationship, an online D/s one is carved out by the people involved as it goes along.
In answer to your question, an online sub need not have any experience at all, but an online relationship can be intimate, challenging and varied if everyone in it wants it to be. It most definitely doesn't begin and end with text role play. Finding out where it begins and ends for you and your online partner is the beauty, right?
