LikesEmYoungNHng -> took my cell phone in the jacuzzi with me... (6/2/2011 1:08:03 PM)

EPIC FAIL.

I HAVE IT SEPARATED FROM THE BATTERY IN A BAG OF RICE TO PULL ALL THE MOISTURE OUT OF IT...

ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY GOOD ADVICE FOR SAVING A CELL PHONE SO I DONT HAVE TO GET A NEW ONE?

THANKS,
c

Unfortunately, no. You can pray the dry rice will work for you... I suggest you do the same with the battery, on a different bag... but this is as much as you can do. I'd give you a 50% chance to need a new phone, and this is just to cheer you up a bit, my realistic estimate will be considerably higher towards the new phone option.

Try a hair dryer to dry it out, this worked for my son and myself on two separate occasions.

the screen is still moist. you can see the condensation.

idk if it will do any good at this point. should have done that when i got home from the jacuzzi. ugh.

thanks for the advice

The perfect fix is to not take it to the hot tub.

I'll leave now before you hit me,

sorry I think you're screwed.

Look at it as an opportunity to get something nicer.

24 hours in the rice. If it doesnt work after that, you need a new phone.

Hair dryer, bad idea, according to this article.

Might be worth a read.

Whatever you do, don't switch it on until you are certain it's completely dry. Apparently it's not the water that fucks it up, it's the electricity being conducted by the water. If you get all the water out (and it wasn't already completely fuxxed when it first got soaked) you stand a chance.

I drunkenly jumped in a pool fully clothed with my phone in my pocket once. Epic fail. It just about survived though.

Not sure what area you are in, (I won't ask as you would post it if you wanted it broadcast), IF you are in the US, check yahoogroups for a freecycle group near you, and beg for a cell phone for your carrier. Often people get a new cell phone when they upgrade their plans and just keep the old working phone lying around the house collecting dust. Freecycler folks give their stuff to other freecyclers just for the asking. No money involved.

Hope this one starts working, but if not, at least freecycler is a place to start.

LD Vixen i am in southern cali

they have em here?

LDVixen -> RE: took my cell phone in the jacuzzi with me... (6/2/2011 6:11:42 PM)

Yes, they sure do, they are all over Sunny Southern CA. Just do a google search for Freecycler, and pick out the one closest to you. You then log on, post in the subject line Wanted-Working Cell phone for X service. In your topic, be sure to note when you can pick up the phone, and what areas you are able to travel to. Make sure you actually show up when you say you going to pick up so that you do not annoy anyone.

Be sure to read and follow the group's posting guidelines because at least the first few posts you make will be moderated.

Most likely someone will have a cell phone of your carrier. You will then go pick up the cell phone. I never even meet most of the people who pick up my stuff. I just leave it by the gate and ask them to come get it at a certain time.

And you thought I was just being a perv when I told you to get undressed first. See I was only thinking about your well being. Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

<Hmmmmmm...naked lesbians in a pool...Hanners, can we get a pool,? Pretty please?>

www.freecycle.org

Search for california, then your city. Its a wonderful organization, everything is free, all you have to do is arrange to pick things up. Make sure to meet in a public spot if its for a small item... for larger things, take a big friend with you. Always be safe. [:D]

Dropped mine in a river a few weeks ago - it was under water for a good couple of minutes. Bag of rice worked, but it took two days. Give it a good amount of time before you give up.
