If they're more than a size 12 or 14 I'll eat my new hat.
Plus size starts at 16 or 18.

Puleeze!

I was a plus size model and I can tell you that those 3 ladies are NOT plus sized. They are probably a size 8.

Franca is completely full of crap.

Plus size in the modeling industry is size 12 and up.

Of course that does not reflect real life, where plus size officially is considered 14 plus.

The point is-  they are getting away from the anorexia thing- and it is about time.

I agree, but to call those models plus size is ridiculous.

Pretty much what I was going to say. but they do look more real than most models. In fact I think they look positively yummy! Especially the one on the right.

now that you mention it- they seem sort of average.

I applaud the attempt to be PC, but women have such insane body image issues, that to call it plus size is just wrong.

They are average, which is plus size for the modeling industry.

To me, they are lovely, healthy looking women... finally!

Maybe they meant plus size titties and booty?  Those ladies were packin' for sure!

They look about size 12 to me.

According to Plus Model Magazine, "According to PLUS, The term 'Plus Size' is an industry standard that applies to any women who is over a size 12. To be even more specific, the fashion industry identifies plus size as sizes 12-24, super size as sizes 4X-6X and extended size as 7X and up."

In stores, plus size racks typically start at size 14, although 14's can be found in non plus departments, as well.

I think it's great that they're using "average" sized women as models, but I would agree that calling them "plus sized" is kind of a stretch.  However, they don't look much different than many "plus sized" models I see in plus sized ads.

Doutzen Kroes and Heidi Klum are not the only perfectly proportioned models that have been called “fat” by the fashion industry. Dutch model Lara Stone joins this group. She’s 26 years old, 5’10”, a US size 4 and she’s heard the “fat comments” one too many times.

“People still tell me I’m fat, but when I look in the mirror, that’s not what I see. It’s depressing when the clothes don’t fit and you are always the odd one out…I was on a shoot last week and the stylist took out this tight corset dress and said, ‘Here, put it on,’ and I was like, ‘Who are you kidding?’ There was no way, so that was very rude of her. It’s like, come on, she’s a woman; whether you’re buying jeans at the mall, or wearing couture, you know what it’s like for clothes not to fit. It’s not an easy kind of rejection, because it’s very personal. It’s you, you’re body. You take it to heart.”

‘What they say is ‘curvy,’ but you know they mean fat.”

“I don’t want to be the fat one anymore,” she told Elle UK. “I have just started doing Pilates every morning, then going to the gym, running, and swimming. I make sure to relax in the sauna after exercising.”

When a 4 is considered fat, imagine a 12.

When I was younger, I weighed 125-135 at 5'8" tall. I wore a size 11-12. My niece is the same size now that I was then & she wears a 4. So a size 12 these days really is a plus size. I thought that those women were beautiful, but most definitely they were my idea of plus size, much more so than the models they use at Lane Bryant.

I agree. But when they say "plus size model" some average sized models are 2 or 4's. Skin and bones if you ask me. Dont that hurt the fellas?

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Vogue uses three plus-size models for cover in bid to 'battle against anorexia' Read more: http://w (6/3/2011 1:18:20 AM)

I didn't get any complaints from the fellas when I was that small. [:D]

I find their approach counterproductive.  By portraying average size women as "plus size" they're furthering the idea that women should be stick figures, and that anything else is less than ideal.

After a year and a half in Korea, it's nice to see women who have actually have more than pubescent breasts....

Great point.  But I suppose it's gotta start somewhere.  Here you have three beautiful women on the cover of a magazine, who are NOT "stick figures."  And it's got people's attention.  Maybe that's a good thing?

Ya know....I can "hear" jubilation/excitment in your "voice" at the curves...Bravo RS...Bravo......

I am not little, nor am I what most would call a BBW..but I am a size 13/14. But hell I have 38DDD boobs...I have a waist 32in, hips 38 in, regular normal (to me anyhow YMMV) for a woman, especially one in her late 40's. And The whole I should weigh 108 lbs thing, yeah right....my tits are 10 lbs apiece! So while I agree those ladies are not really plus size, they are closer to normal than most models you see, especially on a cover.

UK sizes are two sizes smaller than ours. So a UK size 12 is an American 8.
