quote:

President Obama could get a second chance to sell Congress on the military operation in Libya, thanks to some last-minute help from an unlikely ally: House Speaker John A. Boehner.

On Thursday, with some liberals and conservatives trying to get Congress to force a withdrawal from Libya, Boehner (R-Ohio) offered an alternative. He introduced a resolution that would give Obama 14 more days to make his case.
...

On Wednesday, Republican leaders had to abruptly shelve a proposal from one of Congress’s perennial outliers — Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio) — that would have demanded Obama withdraw forces from the Libya campaign within 15 days. The bill turned out to have much broader support than expected.

Boehner’s resolution was intended as a less-drastic way to express congressional unhappiness. In a meeting with fellow Republicans on Thursday afternoon, Boehner said of Kucinich’s bill that it would be wrong to abruptly pull out of a NATO-led operation.

I suppose the wishes of the TAXPAYERS don't get any consideration.

farglebargle -> RE: Republicans Block Kucinich's Libya Withdrawal Bill. Boehner: "It Would Be Wrong To Pull Out " (6/4/2011 10:23:12 AM)

Maybe the taxpayers should be hiring lobbyists instead?

No, no "hiring." But most likely a lot of "Firing" in Nov of 2012.

Congress's bipartisan rebuke to the Obama administration was because Obama failed to even seek the required congressional authorization, that was the entire issue.

Obama was was either trying to pretend that congressional authorization wasnt a requirement (or he was ignorant of that fact) and so congress had to correct him.

In other words Obamas reprimand didnt have anything to do with forcing a withdrawal of American support for the Libyan action.

And Kucinich is in his own little world, as always. Even the Democrats refuse to stand with him, though I can respect his consistency, its too bad other leftists arent as consistent as he.

Ever hear of a PAC?

TheHeretic -> RE: Republicans Block Kucinich's Libya Withdrawal Bill. Boehner: "It Would Be Wrong To Pull Out " (6/4/2011 11:40:24 AM)

Question for you, Fargle. Did you not know that Kucinich's bill had Republican co-sponsorship, or did you deliberately leave that out? How about that it got more Republican votes than Democrat?

Taxpayers PAC, seems to me, isn't something which you should ever need to incorporate.

It was the Republican co-sponsorship which got Boehner's panties in a twist apparently. My real concern was illustrating Boehner's pull quote, but wanted to add a little context for those too lazy to actually RTFA.

Why not? Any organization that raises and aggregates funds for political purposes has to incorporate.

You misunderstand. I don't mean they should be exempt from incorporating.

My point is that you should never need an organization to represent taxpayer's interests in the first place, since THE FUCKING CONSTITUENTS shouldn't need any additional, special access.

We're already paying for the only level of access which should exist.

WOO! FUCKING! HOO! Post 7000!

What cost bipartisan support was the demand to pull support within fifteen days, rtfa.

Again, why not? There are limits on inviduals contributions so one wealthy person isnt able to unduly influence an election. If you want to aggregate funds to make those limits less onerous, why shouldnt their operations be subject to scrutiny via registration and bookkeeping requirements?

I don't want to aggregate funds. See Also: Irony.
