Ok- Her system is direct tv. Do I need to go thru the TV remote control, or do I go thru the satellite remote?

TV. Usually with the model number you can get the owner's manual on the net in PDF format. You might need the original remote, a universal might not do it. T^T

Ok- the original remote. good to know- so it is a TV function rather then a satellite box function. I wont phone her anymore tonight- she is hyped up- had a fight with her sister today-- so- tomorrow.

Yes, closed caption is fed through by all legal video formats. Now if she happens to have an illegal cable box I don't know what to tellya. But closed captions are even recorded on VCRs, DVRs and DVDrs. It is designed that way. T^T

Ok- that is helpful. Her system is all legal. So that wont be a problem.
