Well I went to my nephew's fifth birthday party yesterday...at an old, local roller skating rink.
I had a blast!  Now I used to be a roller skating goddess oh so many years ago.  (Think I was twelve)
Not quite as graceful now, but a few times around the rink and it all started coming back to me.
I loved that they still play those perfect seventies songs...lots of Donna Summer, Village people, the Electric Slide.
I found that I can't spell and skate at the same time any more...trying to do the YMCA landed me flat on my ass!!!!
And luckily I didn't get that evil blister from going around and around in the same direction for hours.  All in all it was a nostalgic, fun day.

It's nice to relive our glory days, isn't it? *grins*....... I never was great at skating, but was good enough to have fun at it. Now, I need to go climb a tree, ride a bike, and rig some stuff to blow up outside, and my nostalgic trip will be underway [8|]...

I also spent a lot of time at the local roller rink during my teens.  Fun.

Reading this has brought back alot of fond memories, I lived at the Roller Rink myself.

Oh I am so jealous, we used to have a skating rink around here when i was in grammer school, You were one of the coolest people if you had a birthday party there. As i got older it turned out 4 wheel skates werent as cool as roller blades and i got me a pair of those and landed on my ass quite often. I need to break them out again and see just how pathetic i still am at it lol

Roller skating rocks!  You brought back a lot of memories.  My two boys spent a lot of time clinging to the walls at the skating rinks, but we went anyway so Mom could have a good time, lol.  Maybe in about 5 years, Grandma can take the granddaughter skating!  (She arrives June 17)

Darling in the 70's we actually wore blue jeans as tight as we could squeeze into them and as low cut(hip huggers) and with as big a bell bottoms as possible, with a top that exposed your belly......omg granny used to get on to me for that one.......then with this one you went skating at the roller rink......

I actually pulled out my roller blades yesterday, went to my moms house and asked her if she wanted to go rollerblading, she was all excited then............bridezilla came over (my brothers fiance, they are getting married the 27th)  she went off on us, told us what are we out of our minds to pull out or rollerblades 2 weeks before the wedding, and that if i broke a bone i wasnt gonna have a crutch to walk down the aisle with..................jeez she ruins all the fun, damn beast! lol

Huh.  That's a normal day at my house.

I miss skating.  It was usually roller blades, but I used to be good at it.  I'm not so great with the four-wheel skates.

Hmm, we didnt have skating rings back in Russia around that age I took out my off-road bycicle pack it full of grease and go driving through mud and marshes, I would drive it through strams and marshes with muck and water rising up to my chest :)
Then my older friend got himself a 4 cycle dirt bike holy shit we snapped the thing in two after a long jump.

Spent my fair share of time in roller rinks... and ice rinks...and half pipes, grind slides... hell, if it contained the word blade, I'd strap it to my feet and go cause havok.... LOL still do when my knees allow...
