DomKen -> Baffled (6/7/2011 8:09:35 AM)

Came across this film being released by a social conservative film maker.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn_Iq9D_Clg&feature=player_embedded

It is supposed to be a positive anti abortion movie. Does anyone get a positive feeling from the trailer?

cpK69 -> RE: Baffled (6/7/2011 8:39:24 AM)

Positively creepy!

Kim

juliaoceania -> RE: Baffled (6/7/2011 8:46:52 AM)

It is like a Christian Saw

Louve00 -> RE: Baffled (6/7/2011 8:53:43 AM)

Scary.  Glad it's just a movie.  When things like this start happening in real life, then my suspicions about some people being absolutely insane will be proven.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Baffled (6/7/2011 8:57:55 AM)

It's almost like it was funded by the pro-choice folks to make the anti-abortion/religious right look like a bunch of nutcases.

juliaoceania -> RE: Baffled (6/7/2011 8:58:52 AM)

Or maybe these nutcases are hoping Christians will start abducting pregnant women.... truly fucking psycho

hlen5 -> RE: Baffled (6/7/2011 9:00:51 AM)

Let me guess - 2 will give the baby up for adoption, and the third that wanted to abort at 7 months will keep the baby. They'll all leave sadder but wiser.

There was a Broadway play with the same premise of a pregnant woman being held captive til the birth. I can't think of the name of the play though.

I think the fathers should be locked up with them.

ETA: Minor hijack - I followed this from the original link, does anyone know if this is a movie and it's name?

Hijack over.

Thanks. I just couldn't see how this wasn't creepy. Now why make what is almost a horror film which puts the side you want to portray positively as the bad guys?

I forgot to mention that I am pro-choice all the way. Maybe if we saw the movie in it's entirety, we might see the point the anti-choice crowd is trying to make with it.

Did some digging and found a plot summary
http://www.nj.com/hobokennow/index.ssf/2011/06/pro-life_horror_film_the_life.html

In short the women are all dead and in purgatory. The ones who accept the pro life position get to go to heaven while the one who doesn't, and the OB who delivers all the babies but is a suicide, get to spend eternity in hell being pregnant and giving birth.

juliaoceania -> RE: Baffled (6/7/2011 3:28:04 PM)

The storyline is still baffling and bizarre

From the press release

quote:

a psychological thriller about abortion—a film, which turns out to be PRO-LIFE

quote:

offers a powerful, anti-abortion climactic twist

quote:

Del Vecchio and the cast invite pro-lifers to come to this historic event

The producer certainly thinks there is some sort of positive message.

When the fuck are you going to learn that your selective editing isnt going to fly?

quote:

The controversial premise of THE LIFE ZONE: three women have been kidnapped from abortion clinics and are being held for seven months—until they all give birth. The film, which appears to cut right down the middle, examining the topic from both sides, offers a powerful, anti-abortion climactic twist.

anti-abortion TWIST is not an anti-abortion MESSAGE

Right.  Real , middle of the road, willbe.  The only way you can get a 7 month abortion is some really bad medical reason (lethal fetal defects, health risk to mother), since it's not allowed on-demand per Roe v. Wade.

I used to see the "pro-life" folks show statistics like "X number of abortions take place from 4 - 7 months gestation", when in fact you couldn't get one after 6 months.  2nd trimester abortions used to make up about 7 percent of all abortions (if you could find a clinic that performed them).

I didnt write the thing, havent seen the thing. If the spinner in chief wants to quote from somebody who knows and says its down the middle, then selective quoting to make it sound like its pro anything is just his typical dishonesty.

And if you havent seen it you dont have a fucking clue either.
