When I was a young single mom I was laid off for the winter from my job. I had just started getting more hours, and in a couple of days I was going to have a good pay check. I was pretty late paying my energy bill, so I called up the electric company to arrange them to wait two days for payment... they wouldn't. I had pennies I had saved from being a waitress for a couple of years.... so I went down and paid the bill with 77 dollars in rolled pennies.... they took them...

As described he deserves the disorderly conduct charge. It says he dumped the pennies on the counter and demanded that they count them. If he brought them rolled as JO did, it would be no big deal.

I think everyone with medical bills should do what this guy did. Too bad most people can't pay their health insurance premiums in person with pennies. I'd love to see that. Maybe if they got tired of counting pennies they'd quit fighting against single-payer health care.

I agree ... If he had em rolled and placed em on the counter with some statement to the effect "it's all here, receipt please" and then the still refused he might have been able to raise hell with them for not accepting legal tender. But since the cops were summoned, I suspect more was said than what was related in the YAHOO article[:D]

The receipt is funny, because believe me, they don't count em...lol

It wasn't the pennies.

It was the throwing them on the counter and having his pissy little fit demanding they count them that got the cops called.

If you make a scene, then your conduct is disorderly. Throwing unrolled pennies all over the counter and making demands is aggressive and is making a scene.

We all understand him wanting to make a point. His execution was flawed.
