Status: offline 		Fuck hunky,you got me all scared...I'm a little bit behind in my PLUS loans...and I thought I saw a SWAT team cruising my neighborhood......turns out they were going to the local meth dealers house....whew,that was close,I better get those checks in the mail !!!!!!

I just looked at the contract of my last student loan, it says this:

No I didnt miss that part.  Does it really matter if a swat team or a fed team from DoE uses swat tactics needlessly? No, it doesnt. The hole in the door still screams "swat", regardless of whodunnit.

So the DoE says its not over student loans.  But what other reason would there be for the DoE to be breaking down anyone's door? 

As I said, even if it were more sinister than simply 'student loans', the tactics are totally overzealous.

The spin from the Feds coming out now is typical of an agency in retreat after an overzealous use of force gets outed on the internet.

Status: offline 		Off the top of my head I could probably come up with hundreds of reasons the authorities use overwhelming force....first and foremost it keeps the target of LE safer than going in undermanned.That can tend to lead to the suspected criminal thinking resistance is the way to go.......when they come in like gangbusters most folks just hit the floor...and shit their pants....it is hard on the door....but everyone leaves the premises somewhat healthy,if slightly soiled.

Now, I did not see the search warrant, none of us saw the search warrant. In a search warrant, they have to say what they are looking for, or who they are looking for. They have to limit the scope of their search to what they are looking for. In other words, if they are looking for a person, they shouldn't be looking in the drains or the freezer (unless they think the person met with foul play).

In this case they had probable cause to believe this woman was at this residence. That is all they needed was probable cause to search the residence.

They do not have to say what crime they are investigating in the search warrant...

Now if this man believes his rights were violated he can go to court, he can get a new door perhaps. The real limit on faulty search warrants and searches is that any evidence obtained cannot be used in court.

But since when does the rights of LE to go home safe at night by virtue of 'barnstorming in' trump the rights of the guy who eats the dirt, shits his pants and sits naked in the back seat of the car for 6 hours?

I think you should really look up the defination of Liberalism, Conservatism, and Liberal.

In fact, check out the thesaurus on 'liberalism'. Likewise, why not look up the word, liberal, to see what it is based on from Latin: līberālis (of freedom, befitting the free).

Status: offline 		Woah Woah Woah....... US Department of Education has NO I repeat NO criminal or civil enforcement mandate. If you don't pay your loan they sue you and another agency (very likely private) comes after you for the money.
I bet ANY AMOUNT of money that this either is the result of criminal behavior such as LOAN FRAUD. And to bring in the cavalry, there would have been a ring or larger scale investigation going on.

Status: offline 		If the DoE boys are really itching to use gestapo tactics and battering rams, why not visit the executive suite at the University of Phoenix and some of these other for-profit colleges?  These people are the sub-prime loan broker of the college loan world, the real criminals on a multi-billion dollar scale.
