http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/food/2011-06-09-corn-harvest-estimate_n.htm

What I am wondering is, if corn surplus becomes critical do you curtail purchasing for ethanol, and allow only food producers to purchase?

Sanity -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 10:53:49 AM)

More food riots are sure to follow, with predictably very little media attention just like last time.

And of course governments around the globe had ought to halt subsidizing food into fuel projects, immediately..

When we can drill for fuel, or mine it, its insane to starve the poor in order to create it.

servantforuse -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 11:08:22 AM)

Federal EPA rules dictate how much ethanol is in the fuel we are forced to buy. We will not have a choice as to buy that crap fuel or not.

mnottertail -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 11:09:24 AM)

Those federal EPA rules were voted into law by republicans early in the W administration.

How many people can be fed on the pounds of corn it takes to produce one pound of beef?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 11:43:58 AM)

Good thing E85 was shown to be a crappy idea and production is down to about nothing or it would be worse.

As ruminants I guess they are gonna do around 10 pounds of corn (around 1/5th or 1/6th of a bushel) to get a pound of beef...maybe more.

Thats alotta corn flakes.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 11:50:24 AM)

Eat grass fed locally raised beef. It's better for ya.

mnottertail -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 11:52:52 AM)

I raise grass fed on my farm and eat it.   Cornholed beef is like conservative thought, worn out, and tasteless.

servantforuse -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 11:53:47 AM)

This problem will get worse if the Obama administration allows the EPA to increase the percentage of ethanol in our fuels. The only ones benefitting from this crap are the producers who are subsidized for making it.

mnottertail -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 11:59:18 AM)

The only ones benefitting from the crap are Big Oil corporations.

EPA is forcing nothing, it is permitting a 15% blend up from 10% to be sold in the US.

Dude, know what you are talking about, this ethanol is hard on american engines, they were not set up for it, it is a balance between creation of jobs, using less imported oil and blowing up typical crappy american shoddy manufacturing in automobiles.

Hell yissal....There`s a farm here in Sussex Co. that produces free range beef, chickens, eggs, natural milk and milk products. And they`re damm good quality.

And I asked one of the owners if he received any government subsidies.No.He got money once after a long drought more than 20 years ago but that was it.

He`s doing well without being subsidized.

Any interest in discussing artificial market manipulation through tax payer funded farm subsidies?

Anyone?

Orion?

mnottertail -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 12:08:10 PM)

The original 2005 voted into law by republican house signed by W.
The second during the W oil crisis (and not so much to do with ethanol directly as the first bill was all about ethanol) and signed into law by W.

I would say at least 75% correct, (I could argue for more since the pubs voted second one too), but I have a passing grade and you with your innumeracy have an epic fail.

Thanks for the links.  And the proof of my position.
Welcome to the dark side, glad to have you hunting my proofs for me.  We will turn you into a fact man yet.

No, and you wont get subsidies for that, Wheat and Corn.

They can be traded on wall street on paper, grass and organic tomatoes cant.

Owner59 -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 12:19:33 PM)

So the earthy-crunchies are fucked by Wall Street too.....

I am surprised blowjob futures are not on this list, I know the market is out there, boyo.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Corn surplus much lower than projected (6/9/2011 1:25:50 PM)

It is not just beef, but pork and chicken as far as meats go. Then you have the corn sweetners that are used in a lot of different products. The price of corn is directly related to grocery prices for many items that has beef, pork or chicken, as well as that uses corn sweetners.

Corn is the mainstaple of the grocery industry.

From the article:

" That means U.S. food prices can be expected to stay high through 2012. "
