You know, there never seems to be any middle.

Whenever someone makes a prediction, it's "we're headed for disaster!" and never "it's gonna make things a bit more difficult." And anyone who disagrees with the disaster is then "completely ignoring the obvious."

Surely, there must be middle ground? Did nature change and eliminate all continuums?

Those of you so prophesizing...do you truly believe this is so simply a jump to disaster, with no foreground?

And if you do...are you just spreading the word for the good of humanity, or are you taking specific prudent actions for the coming bad times? What exactly are these disaster preparedness plans?

Or if you aren't taking steps to prepare, why not, in the face of such certain disaster?

I appreciate your serious consideration of the matter. Thank you.

If our elected leaders told us the truth back in 2008, our entire economic system would have collapsed if they didn't approve their drastic bail-out measures. This being the case, I think it's very reasonable for folks to assume that a disaster is indeed possible. Why would reasonably intelligent folks believe otherwise?

Also, I think an increasing number of people can sense that things are getting worse out there as time passes. And not just due to the recent downturn of the economy, but in ethics itself. People sense that the system is growing increasingly corrupt, and with good reason. They know our elected leaders are for sale to the highest bidders, and that ain't us! Unfortunately, most people still choose to worship the very system they distrust. Intellectually and intuitively, they know something is wrong; but emotionally, they can't detach from the status quo.

IMO, here's the best-case scenario we can hope for: The impending problems of increasing unemployment due to ongoing technology improvement proves to be slow and tempered. As the ranks of the unemployed increase slowly while the economy staggers downward, more people lose faith in the current system. These people then embrace an alternative system that serves all the people and their environments with equal respect. The collective conscious (critical mass) elevates to numbers that can effect positive change in time, before we reach the point of no return and the proverbial shit hits the fan.

If we let the SHTF, either chaos will ensue, or a facsist totalitarian state will emerge to control the masses. Either way, it won't be pretty.

The only thing I'm really doing about it is collecting recipes for preparing neo-con. Which is a bitch since they're so fatty... though they'll probably make great bacon.

We are not into the bright sunshine yet but, I do believe that the clouds are only temporary. I have to believe I have way too many depending on my judgment and abilities not to believe. If I weren't as I am, I'd just stay at home at wait for it to all end, stocking up on precious metals, spreading the gloom, and in the end, losing all that I have spent life building. Life is never that bad.

But just in case buy lots of Catsup... or maybe a spicy barbeque sauce. Like Baby Ray's or a nice local brand if you're anywhere near Memphis.

One of the first things a sub is taught in my house is never to bring home "Catsup". Despite John Kerry, there is only one variety allowed and its spelled "Ketchup".

[though I will never patronize this establishment:

You won't be needing any Catsup.
Just make sure you don't go running when the SHTF, we don't want you all stringy and shit.

I'll stick with IHOP then...at least until their name becomes IHOPE (and change) TM

We have been heading towards disaster for a long time now. I mean how long can you keep inflating the currency with out serious consequences ?

I believe in being prepared. I have a food supply, a garden, a seed bank and canning supplies as hyper inflation being the most likely scenario food will be more difficult to come by and a valuable commodity. From this point in time I'm not sure how fast inflation will rain down but it could be more and more obvious by the middle of this summer. I'm seeing it in food prices going up faster than ever before over the last two years. When you see a loaf of bread (not the premium kind) in the 5- 6 dollar range it's going to become obvious to most people what lies ahead. I'm not sure at what point masses of people will start freakin out. If nothing much happens then no big deal.  As a poster above stated "Plan for the worst and hope for the best" seems logical.

If the voters with brains prevail Obama will not have had time to screw things up as badly as Ford and Carter, and no gardens were needed then.

Shouldn't this question be directed at the Rev Harold Camping? IIRC he had a few words to say on such matters until fairly recently. [:D]

If only the electorate would have had their brains in place when this guy got elected to begin with.  There has been considerable damage done already though and what the heck, gardens are fun.

You know, there never seems to be any middle.

There is a middle, its just not very newsworthy. Things only make it to people radar when the bottom is falling out or when there are line-ups of people wanting to buy something going thru the roof. Now that could be houses (during the peak), line ups for gold (back in 19 something), or it could be bottled water sold out during an earthquake or other natural disaster. Those things are what are reported on.

quote:

Or if you aren't taking steps to prepare, why not, in the face of such certain disaster?

The reasons why people dont prepare are varied. For instance, how does one prepare for retirement if they barely earn enough just to survive for the majority of their lifetime?
Some people just dont think a disaster will happen to them. Some dont know what to do but they dont have the where-with-all to find out, some are just lazy, some think oh the govt will take care of it/me if disaster hits. Others might just be part of the herd and dont do anything unless their friends also do it.

I personally do educate myself, i have learned (at least the basics) on how to make a house earthquake resistant and fire resistant, but there are limitations of course, unless one wants to build a bunker. I have my own financial plan so that I have money when i am old to get whatever medical procedures and care I need. I try to take care of my body too so I do what I can. [:)]

So..... now what about you????
