"It is like the nuclear bomb for e-voting systems. It's the deal breaker. It really makes the security flaws that we found (in prior years) look trivial." - Avi Rubin, computer science professor, Johns Hopkins University

Erg, electronic voting machines disturb me greatly. The number of known flaws in these machines rises consistantly. They've had a disturbing number of malfunctions.

As a resident of New York, this is even more saddening. In New York, we had for decades the most reliable voting machines on the market: lever voting machines.

Gears and levers and simple mechanical counters. That's the way to go. They may not be technologically advanced machines, but their mechanics make them exceedingly reliable (provided the machines are maintained). Plus, it's alot harder to rig a mechanical voting machine with publicly available construction specs since the changes are physically obvious. The electronic voting machines which for the public are black boxes and in reality a bundle of buggy software allow for a much wider variety of tampering without notice.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
