I grew up feeling optimistic about our country, as a child, in my teens, 20’s, 30’s and even up to 40ish.
I thought of America as the land of almost endless opportunities for those willing to work hard, get an education, take chances, getting a job was always relatively easy, and the future was bright for people that wanted to take advantage of all the opportunities that were available in this county.

About 3 ½ years that began to change, and I am not going to apologize for feeling that our country is on the decline, and that this country is headed towards a serious DEPRESSION.
I would love to read or have someone explain to me WHY I should not feel this way, but I have yet to read, see or hear ANYTHING to cause me to even consider changing my mind.

Many, many, many people believe this country is going down like the titanic, the fucking ship is sinking, shit is getting ready to hit the proverbial fan, and we are headed for a DEPRESSION.This CNN poll shows that almost 50% of Americans. feel we are headed towards a DEPRESSION. --> NEARLY HALF of Americans fear a DEPRESSION

So it could be many here on collarme are the ones with the rainbow shades on. I am actually surprised that so many Americans feel we are headed towards a DEPRESSION, because I felt so many have the need that “Everything is going to be okay, no matter how bad things appear.”

What I want from this thread, is to hear from BOTH sides. Those that DO feel we are headed towards a DEPRESSION in America.
As I said, up until well past the age of 40, I always felt GOOD about the opportunities and the future of America. But for the last 3 years, I don’t feel good about the future of America, I am NOT going to apologize for not feeling this way, and I will start topics related to this topic.

50% of Americans feel we are headed towards a DEPRESSION.
50% do not feel we are headed towards a DEPRESSION.

IF you feel as I do, feel free to tell me WHY you feel this way and anything else related to the Coming DEPRESSION.

IF you don't feel this way, feel free to tell me WHY you feel this and anything else the would or could help me and the MANY others change our minds.

I would LOVE to hear some viable reasons that indicate we are NOT headed for a DEPRESSION, and I would LOVE to actually put on some rainbow shades and feel everything is going to be better for most people in this country real soon.

As someone who enjoys reading about the last Great Depression of the 30s, I never thought I would experience a Depression.
Well, well, well, never say never.
As we slide into the DEPRESSION, I will start as many threads on this subject as my little heart desires.
If we do NOT slide into a DEPRESSION, I will start threads on how it did not happen.
I HOPE we do not have to live through another DEPRESSION, but at this point, I don't see that happening.

PEACE

What we have here is much worse that the great depression, back then people with jobs weren't affected nearly as badly as they will be today. Back then they didn't have under water mortgages, or automobiles that required $4+ gas.

Not to mention skyrocketing food costs, which are about to get astronomically higher with the latest Wheat crop forecast... They're already harvesting first crop in Kansas, and it hasn't even gone to grain yet, so it's basically hay.

You city dwellers are going to be totally fucked in a year or so, IMO.

Barack Hussein Obama... mmm mmm mmm.

There certainly a number of signs (the debt, inflation, devaluation of the dollar, potentially losing our AAA rating, etc.) that we could be heading that way?  As with many... I believe in Plan for the worst, and hope for the best

subrob, I agree with you to a point, the point you are missing is this: WE are NOWHERE NEAR the bottom, dude.....that is the point, this shit is just beginning.

I don't really think many people realize that point, IF we are at the beginning, dancing on the proverbial edge, this shit could last 10-15 years, and that is deep.

People need to stop voting Republican if they want to live better lives. I think the future depends on electing progressive politicians that represent the middle class and poor because the wealthy have had their way for a long time.

BRAIN, the Democrats or the Republicans can't STOP this shit right now.

I get fucking tired of people thinking EITHER political party can STOP what is happening to this country.
Of course we are going to need social programs.

8 years of Clinton
8 years of Bush
2 years of Obama

No one President can turn this train around.

THIS shit has been in the process of happening for over 25 years, this shit didn't happen overnight.
IT is the result of years of failed policies that have lead to this fucking DEPRESSION
.

Do you understand or have you read anything about the Last Great Depression?

This thread as about how it is going to effect people's lives, don't start that partisian bullshit on here.

Of course I feel outsourcing has greatly contributed to ruining what was once a fairly great country.
Corporations, big business, greed etc. really helped us get where we are right now, but the Democratic party has not done all they could to prevent this train from going off the track.

I think it's virtually inevitable, as this nation is gridlocked. Nothing is being done about the debt, nothing is being done about spending. The only solutions a fair number of people gravitate to is higher taxes, as if that will create more jobs.

Here in illinois they raised the corporate tax rate, guess what they are doing now? The Company that owns the Chicago Exchange threatened to move, so they are going to give them a nice tax break. So, that's how it goes, only the small to medium businesses are legitimate businesses, all the megacorps are sucking hard at the government tit already, and will just suck hard to offset any additional taxes they might pay.

Amazon.com demanded I belieeve it was N. Carolina (May have been South), that they give them an exclusive tax break or they would move. They didn't do it last I heard, but Amazon will surely find a state like Illinois that believes in taxing the small to supplement the large.

And on the other end you have these massive entitlement programs, that need adjusting Now. But like amazon, everyone thinks they are entitled to benefits that cost more than they've contributed. And there is talk of infinite employer side contributions on SS.

Anyway, yeah, the middle class is getting squeezed, because people seem to only worry about the extremes of society staying healthy and strong, we save the megacorps, we save the chronically unemployed, and that all comes from the little bit of progress the middle class once enjoyed.

Stick a fork in it, It's toast. LOL.

I don't want to believe that, but see little evidence otherwise.

I will admit I blame Republican policies a lot, but I also blame Democratic policies.

I BLAME BOTH FUCKING parties for this shit, and I blame all of us for sitting back and allowing all this fucking unbridled outsourcing, and now we are allowing this shit to fucking fall apart and many spend their time arguing about bullshit.

When it gets really, really, bad who the fuck are we going to blame then?

I am going to blame our collective dumb asses for sitting back and watching this shit happen.

We the people, allowed BOTH political parties and years of bad practices, policies, decisions, corporate greed, outsoucring, everthing and the fucking cat and the hat to HAPPEN.

I am going to blame BOTH fucking parties for allowing/causing this DEPRESSION.

People are engaged in bashing Bush, Obama, Weiner, Palin, Republican bashing, Democratic bashing, Congressmen bashing, all manner of fucking bashing, this one and that one, and all manner of bullshit while it all falls apart.

We are sitting back basically and watching, and we are going to have plenty to watch and experience real soon.

I say we are a nation of spectators and watchers, but I do think when things get really, really, bad, we are going to see a lot of action taking place.

Did ANYONE read the article I posted? Almost 50% of AMERICANS feel we are headed towards a fucking DEPRESSION.

Well... yes, there's the "bashing"... but that's not what I'm referring to.  Note the numbers that have shown up at Tea Party events, at Glenn Beck's event, the Jon Stewart's event -- and of course the results of the mid-terms.  Still a lot of senseless "bashing" (which is what they want... it part of the divide and conquer thing), but I also think people are more engaged now than they have been in a loooooooooooong time.

Eventually, we're going to have to act. We can ill afford to solely discuss the problems we face, yet do nothing.

I believe a depression is coming as well. Politicians from both parties have represented corporations for a long, long time now. This is why it doesn't matter who the president is. But enough of the party fan boys. Bush was nobody's conservative and Obama is nobody's progressive. Both are figureheads of a system that rewards lobbyists and corporations and that take from the middle class because the middle class doesn't have any effective representation at all. We haven't hit bottom and this will suck all the way down. The one percent of people that have 95% of the money will have 99% of it by the time we are there.

brainfreeze, right on!

Growing up I used to wear clothes that had little labels that said: MADE IN AMERICA!

I used to love to look at the labels in my clothes that said, MADE IN AMERICA.

Have you seen those labels lately? Have you seen them in the past 25 years?

The problems started long before Bush, and if you really want people to EFFECTIVELY act, you and they need to stop the partisan bullshit and educate themselves on how we got here.

willB, we almost agree on something.

The problem is, you think getting President Obama OUT of the White House, and getting a Republican IN the White House will change something, and it will not.

The only thing a Republican President would do right now is put more people out on the street, and push Grandma off a cliff.

Paul Ryan lookalike pushes grandma off a cliff

Like I am really going to vote for the likes of that guy!

lol

The snakes that caused the problem, can't fix it dude.

lol

hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha
