I don't know if that really qualified as an "eruption" of laughter, Sanity. More the reflexive chuckles of people who laugh, at those moments when you can laugh or you can scream. Now the crowd when that woman from Ag started her story about denying aid to white farmers... But I digress.
I'm thinking the only way we should put one more dime into high speed rail programs (for example), is after we have waived every environmental impact report, and banned lawsuits about it, or at least taken a chainsaw to the list. Instead of it being a jobs program for public relations assholes and all those who endlessly messenger plans and requested changes back and forth for a decade, let's get the concrete plants turning out the prefab viaduct segments, and the recycling companies busy turning old tires into the shock absorbers for the base. There's a heck of a lot of the west side of the Mississippi where we could be laying roadbed across the middle of nowhere right now, but not if every segment is going to get bogged down in court over which hill they are going to quarry for the gravel.
