Oh my, that's a new one. I've never heard anything like it before. I would be against it and presume most following the postings on this board would.  That's just weird.

Considering that I did a search for this topic on google news and found absolutely nothing on a legitimate news sites, it seems another bs topic.

Why dont you tell us what its about and why we should care.

The Cedar Falls, IA City Council has approved an ordinance that requires businesses and commercial properties with more than three units to install a lock box on the outside of the property that will contain any keys necessary to gain access to the property.  The master key for these lock boxes is held by the Fire Department so that they can gain entry into the properties in the event of an emergency.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would care if any city I lived in decided this was a good idea.

D#@* this is a bad idea. I don't know of any lock that can't be picked especially by people who have had locksmith training.

I had to go back to the beginning to figure it out by reading the titles. I guess you wouldn't care unless something so asinine came around to your neck of the woods.

OOPs, I forgot, you must be used to this sort of thing, you're in California.

I have one of those boxes on the side of My commercial building and the firemen have a key to the box.

I save on My insurance because of this.

Just as long as its some other guy and not me, eh?

I dislike seeing freedoms erode this way.  It may not be much now, and it might even appear reasonable on the surface.  It's a slippery slope, nonetheless.

It isnt asinine, its a good idea. Id rather have a lock box availble to the FD than have them break the doors or glass just to find out if theres a problem. We dont own our building but building management and our alarm company both have keys, and they are located within a minute of the office and would beat the FD there anyway.

And then theres the matter of the misleading subject line saying "All residents".

If it was voluntary that would be one thing.  Mandatory is something else again.

Sheesh!  Those folks in Cedar Falls should realize they have nothing to be upset about.  There's nothing at all anyone should be concerned about.  PA's thread title was simply misleading.
