tazzygirl -> Where would you send your tax dollars? (6/13/2011 11:15:09 PM)

Here is a little exercise in free thought.

If you could decide where your tax dollars are to go.... yes, you still have to pay them, but you can decide how they are spent.... what would you choose?

Lets keep it to three choices. Those choices are yours. Oh, and explain why!

1.National defense.A nation has to defend itself.2.The space program, just because I find space exploration fascinating.3.Continue to fund programs and services that help the less forunate around the world.America has too much dam money. We can afford endless wars but we can't afford to help our less forunate members of society? Not in my world.

1. Healthcare because everyone deserves to live healthy

2. Roads/bridges/airports because I hate pot holes and we should travelsafely

3. Police, Fire department. Paramedics – the reasons should be obvious

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Where would you send your tax dollars? (6/14/2011 12:23:12 AM)

1 Drug Addicts.
Because all people deserve to live like everyone else regardless of what they do with their life. Who am I to judge their choices in life, they are still human.

2. Mega Corps.
Well, because, small business just doesn't create enough jobs, and are to hard to manage on the macro level, whereas a large international corporation is much easy for the government to work with and help to direct the economy when needed.

3. Bombs to facilitate the killing of innocent people in developing nations in order to bring democracy to their nations.
We must bring freedom to those in nations and areas of the world that have not been given the opportunities we have been give. There is no way they can change the government themselves, as the governments have to many US made weapons. So, the only solution is to remove the government and militaries of those nations. We will do this with million dollar bombs, and giving weapons and support to any group that is against the present government we are targeting, it does not matter if that group dislikes us as well, as we are only concerned with removing the governments we don't like as quick as possible, we will come back later and battle the newly armed groups later.

Oh, I do need to add a fourth.
4. Higher pay for government employees and more of them.
It is an inevitable consequence of this ever evolving and complex world, that many decisions that once could be granted to the every day man and woman, need to be managed in a more sophisticated and top down approach. We are no longer a world of nations largely isolated, but rather a world of nations highly integrated, and such a situation inevitably introduced a larger and more complicated set of variables that need to be managed in order to act rationally and direct labor and precious resources in a global market. Today, we don't have a situation were your food, is grown a few miles away, but in some instances 1000's of miles away. Now, in partnership with the largest corporations the government can work in concert with these corporations to provide needed intelligence, analysis, and financing to meet the demands of this new world order, and to do that we need to attract the best and brightest to the government, and I proudly donate my taxes dollars to those that are capable of making the decisions I'm incapable of making.

1. Animal Rescue

2. Children's Hospitals

3. Injured Veterans/Veterans' Families

I'm guessing the "why" is self-explanatory.

DarkSteven -> RE: Where would you send your tax dollars? (6/14/2011 5:29:33 AM)

1. Education.
2. Infrastructure - roads and bridges, police protection, libraries, etc.  (Yeah, I know, I cheated by lumping them together).
3. Regulatory oversight.

pahunkboy -> RE: Where would you send your tax dollars? (6/14/2011 6:12:21 AM)

1. Halliburton

2.  Black water

3.  GE

Marc2b -> RE: Where would you send your tax dollars? (6/14/2011 6:43:46 AM)

Three Schmee! I'd divide it into ten even parts:

1. National defence. Without a viable military, everything else is pretty much moot.

2. Infrastructure. If you can't get where you are going, everything else is pretty much moot.

3. Police/courts and Fire/rescue. Crinimals running amok and burning buldings make things difficult for society.

4. Health care for those who can't afford it. Those who can can pay their own way.

5. Clean energy research. You know why (cough, cough, gasp, gack, cough).

6. Education. Idiots are lousy at research, medicine, law, building things and planning military campaigns.

7. Physical education programs. A fat fireman is useless.

8. NASA. Let's go to Mars, damnit!

9. Funding for a new foundation: The Marc2b BDSM Research Center.

10. Lobbying firms that advocate the reduction of taxes (I may have to pay them but they are still too damn high!).

DomImus -> RE: Where would you send your tax dollars? (6/14/2011 7:09:12 AM)

1. Paying off the debt.

2. Paying off the debt.

3. Paying off the debt.

Most people realize what the end result is for someone trying to live off of credit cards yet the government uses that very strategy year in and year out.

I really don’t care where my tax dollar is spent as long as every penny is spent within our borders.

I would withdraw all military forces everywhere in the world immediately.

I would also cease all but humanitarian aid and even then only if we could afford it.

I would withdraw from the United Nations...saving money

I would maintain a world leading military but keeping them within our borders.

I would spend tax money in subsidies to encourage industry in the US and place tariffs’ on all imported goods.

Education: We need an educated society in order to function

Medicare for everyone: Having a healthy productive workforce would be a bonus not only people who get it, but their employers

Infrastructure: Ours is decaying and archaic. It would also stimulate the economy

We dont have enough problems on Earth, let alone in the US, that we need to start some on Mars?

1. Education
2.Infrastructure
3.Exploitation of Space (we did so well with it here, by my calculations we should get a 1800 years out of the universe before it's a smoldering corpse). Remember... along time ago, in a desert far far away, God said it was OK.

Disenfranchised Strippers!!!  'Cause hey... somebody's gotta care, dammit!!! [;)]

Actually... I'd give it all to Animal Shelters. [:)]

I was thinking that myself: the only times when NASA has ever produced any serious results is when a President has been throwing sums of money that would give even Reagan a coronary at them. You can't afford a single payer plan for the medical industry, but there's money to piss away on that?

"We don't we have enough problems here in the trees that we need to start some on the savannah?"

We have always had problems on Earth and we always will.

I could go into a spiel about the economic benefits and the benefits of new discoveries that an invigorated space program would bring but all that is secondary as far as I'm concerned. We should go to Mars for one reason, and one simple reason only... it's there.

Please do.
Apart from anything else, I'd be curious to hear how any of said benefits can be found on Mars, rather than elsewhere.

No. You've got workable fingers (I presume) so look it up yourself if you lack the imagination to realize the benefits of jobs and of discovery... and the possibility of colonizing a new world (you kind of have to think long term as well as short term here).

I'm just glad that the kind of unimaginative thinking that you and Tazzy are demonstrating here is not the norm for the whole human race... else we really would still be in the trees flinging our shit at each other (although, to be sure, when I read some of the threads around here, I can't help but wonder if we have really progressed that far).
