Green eggs and ham.....read it my daughter, grand kids and all the grand nieces and nephews!

Charlotts web was my fave along with stewart little and nancy drew books. Bought charlotts web for my grand daughter and read it to her while she was spending her summer week with me....enjoyed it all over again!

I did book reports on charlotts web in the 3rd 4th and 5th grade! LOL. Went to diffrent schools, dad was military.

I bought the harry potter series for my granddaughter only to find out she was not intrested so I read them myself......so far 3 times!! And will read tthem again....like watching a movie again only better because they last longer!

Good day to all!

When I was REALLY little, my grandma had a stack she bought and read to me all the time....Green Eggs & Ham, Go Dog Go, Sam and the Firefly, Robert the Rose Horse, The Big Red Ball, The Big Honey Hunt (Berenstain Bears), and of course, The Cat in the Hat & TCITH Comes Back. My all-time favorite, I think, is One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

My hat is old, my teeth are gold
I have a bird I like to hold.....

Since my childhood was long ago & most if not all of you have no idea what those books were, I'll tell you my daughter's favorites:

Any thing by Richard Scarry. She loved his books so much that they are still in like new condition 40 years later. And she used to tell me that she would marry him when she grew up.

I attended a very small school in rural Missouri.  The library was divided by grade (K-6) and students were only allowed to check out books at their grade level or below unless they were in the advanced reading class.  Then they could check out books one grade level above theirs.

There was no such thing as a program for gifted students back then so they had absolutely no idea what to do with me.  In first grade, I was given free run of the library.  I started in the 6th grade section and worked my way down.  By the time I left, I'd read every book in the place.  The highlights include:

The Chronicles of Narnia
The Black Stallion books
Anything I could find about dinosaurs
The Trixie Belden mysteries
The Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series
The Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder
To Kill A Mockingbird
Misty of Chicoteague and its sequels

I also read the works of Edgar Allan Poe and some of Shakespeare's plays at my great-grandmother's house.

All of the Laura Ingalls Wilder ones, at least twice, anything by Beverly Cleary, The Bobbsey Twins books, the Trixie Belden books, liked her better than Nancy Drew.  Interestingly enough, about 6 weeks ago, I checked out and reread yet again Charlotte's web and the Winnie the Pooh books.  After I saw Jaws, anything shark related.....the town librarian thought I was weird.....I've forgotten more books than I've read, and I read voraciously!  The limit at the library growing up was 6 books......and blow thru those in two days!  If we had library cards, I'd have worn them out big time!  The limit here at our library is like 20.......

Oh, and I loved mysteries too....Alfred Hitchcock, Ellery Queen, and then there was the scary stuff.  I must've went thru all the ghost story books at least twice!  Course, then I'd be up all night, scared of getting eaten in my bed, but hey....that's part of the fun of it, right?

Several of you mentioned Laura Ingalls books, I love the show & own all the dvd sets (yes I do, I'm so ashamed) but I could never get into the books and I LOVED reading when I was growning up.

I loved reading about the "Box Car Children".
Hannah Fox too.

Once I found my mother's book, "Last Tango in Paris" in the basement & learned about written porn.  I wanted to read it in my room but alas I was caught trying to smuggle it past mum.

Actually the book I remember best is about the Marsh-family.... (don't know the title or writer and I'm lazy today)

And there was a series of books about a twin who'd had divers adventures (that;s dutch)

And the books of Dick Laan, about a little man (pinkysize) and his wife..... of wich I had collected all books.

When I was about 18 or so and we were moving to another home in another town, I went to our local childrenshospital and gave them all away.
So I do not own those books anymore.

Nowadays I have digital books. I 've been reading digitally for some 6 years now.

I read then like I read now: voraciously
I read thousands of books and honestly can't remember lots of titles. Here's a few worn favorites I had as a little one though:

http://www.amazon.com/Caleb-Kate-William-Steig/dp/0374410380/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308444299&sr=1-2

http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Fish-Fisherman-His-Wife/dp/B0010KQ0KI/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308444423&sr=1-2

http://www.amazon.com/Little-Old-Man-Could-Read/dp/B000K2OAM2/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308444461&sr=1-1

Oh those covers bring back memories
