I'm not sure how they detect such things (it might be user submitted for all I know) but the browser Opera is reporting that CM is distributing malware. I post here to warn folks if it's true, and to encourage anyone with admin contacts to check it out.

Apparently they're using AVG's list of dangerous sites.

It actually may be an issue of discrimination, because of public misconception. As far as I know CM gives you one cookie and then you sign in transparently.

As an Opera user, maybe there is some way to fix that, but I am not. Actually on the net I've found that many warnings aren't worth a shit and then when you do get hit with something there was no warning. So I pretty much blow it off.

Whatever it is, it's new. I had no problems yesterday.

On a semi related note - why doesn't CM have a forum dedicated to site related questions and issues? I struggled to find a place to put this and "Casual Banter" just seems wrong.

On the other side, at the bottom of every page, is a link that says SUPPORT. That's where site-related questions go.

But is it a site issue in the first place ? Tell you what, I got a freshly loaded PC in the other room and I could sign on, or just visit. Then I can find out exactly what is in the cookies, and the cache. But there is no need. I might not know where all the bad net thingies come from, but I do know a few places from where they don't.

If it is because of a list, we still have no way of knowing if it is due to prejudice or if someone's PC crashed right after they visited here. If the latter happened it could be because of a site they visited the week before. But it takes intelligence to figure such things out, and as we all know...........

I sent a note to support first. But if this isn't a false alarm, a forum post is quite appropriate, presuming one can find the right spot to post in.

Most sites find a forum about the site useful. It makes for a more informed user base, and is likely to generate lots of ideas for useful improvements.

My best guess is this.

SOMEONE was an idiot and sent a few bad links to people in mails.

Some of those people had AVG. AVG detected that these people were getting malware links from collarme and is now warning everyone using their security software, which includes all opera users, that there has been malware on collarme.

I'm sure I don't have to tell people that if someone sends you a mail with a link you should hover your pointer over the link and see where it goes, if it goes to, say, a .exe file then don't click on it.

Hopefully collarme will get in touch with AVG, sort out what caused this and confirm that it's gone.

I suspect it is a Java issue. I block most Java apps, and sometimes when I go onto the home page I get a notice that a Java app is trying to run. It has to do with what ads are trying to pop up, as best I can see. A lot of the new browsers define any site that automatically tries to run a Java app as a potential malware site.

Yes, we got that part figured out.

But I now think of it this way - there's nothing anyone could do to any of my computers worse than putting Windows on them. LOL
