Be a man of your word. If you promise it, then keep that promise. Which means don't make promises if you aren't absolutely positive you can keep it. The only acceptable excuses are hospitalizations or death for you or a loved one.

Want the responsibility of being in charge more than you want the rights that come with it. "The Buck Stops Here" was a sign on Harry Truman's desk when he was President. If you aren't prepared to have to be the one to make the hard decisions, then you don't deserve the right to do so.

And I'm curious, since you have zero experience if you are talking about being in charge in the relationship or being a sadist? Because the two are not synonymous. If you're really talking about how to let out your inner sadist, then I suggest you do some basic reading of nonfiction how to books, you join your local community and take workshops on techniques. You want to come across as someone who knows what he's doing and isn't going to hospitalize the bottom instead.

Sounds like the group consensus is, treat it like any other social situation, with the exception that you don't have to worry about shocked looks when you mention your kinks.

Anything else I should know for my first munch? Secret handshake? How to tell which is the table full of kinksters and which is the table full of Rotarians?

If you go to a munch, make sure you do not go the table with women wearing red hats and purple clothes. Although they might be closet kinksters.

Otherwise, know yourself and what you are seeking and above all, do not take seriously every bit of advice you get here on CM or anywhere else.

Always remember, people are replying based on their own experience; and that is something you will need to find with your own partner.

I would say the single most important thing a newbie Dom should know is who he is, what makes him tick, self awareness is highly important.

Maybe the table of Rotarians IS the table of kinksters.
