Id rather get naked and swim with a female scientist.

You man you

You called Me that like it was a bad thing.

Come to think of it, I HAVE been swimming naked with a female scientist before.

Sand gets in places that......... well, never mind

Good to know that female scientists are anatomically correct

I'd love to get naked and swim with whales, just not in freaking ice water.

No shit.  I went "swimming" off Martha's Vineyard one New Years Day and thought I was going to die.  That's not something I ever need to do again.

It was a dare.  The other person chickened out after the water hit my torso, my diaphragm stopped working and I had a little "unable to breathe" episode.  I'm not doing that again any time soon.

Pam -

I understand your trepidation. I do. .In many ways, I share it. Years ago, I saw an interview with Jack Hanna, of the Columbus Zoo. He has since gone on to become famous for has work with animals. He talked of how people see the animals as real, as actual beings, not just concepts. People will be more interested in saving them if the people see the animals as real. People will be more interested in conservation because of the work oz zoos and such.

I have come to agree with his point of view.

best,
sunshine

I don't buy it. Some of the comments in the article would lead me to do some more googling- but methinks one commenter nailed it- it's a publicity stunt for a not so nice aquarium. I'm also having a lot of trouble with the notion that a woman with so little body fat isn't going to suffer from hypothermia being that active- and can hold her breath for how long? I'd bet that professional sponge divers are the best in the world at holding their breath- not little miss steak tartare.

Also- since Belugas don't know what humans normally feel like- why should they have any objection to a wet suit? Has any other cetacean had such a problem? Other than some randy dolphins wanting to bugger a few random humans when clothing got in the way?

I was thinking about that. Belugas in captivity certainly seem to have no objection to contact with wet suits.

If i thought her motive was drumming up publicity for the cause of the whales, i would be more sympathetic. But i suspect she is merely drumming up publicity for herself.

I don't have confirmation that she is a scientist, but she is an impressive free-diver.
