Oh man I hate those lists - Who says the stuff is true?

As Ron would say, "Schlau, aber nichts wahr."

Clever, but nothing true.  Well, a few may well be true, but how do you establish which product of McDonalds' generates most profit?  Revenue, sure!  Margin, why not?  But profit, at then end of the year, after taking out overhead?  Not impossible, but sure as heck not easy.

Anyway, enjoyed the read, but enjoyed being an ass more.

Yours,

benji

Actually Benji ...

1 . Money isn't made out of paper, it's made out of cotton..
True ... If you're talking about American money. I don't know about other currencies ... But you can hold an American dollar up to light and see the fibers.

2. The Declaration of Independence was Written on hemp (marijuana)  paper
Makes sense ... They didnt really have the ability to make paper like we have today back then and it would explain how such a document has been able to last for so long, in such good condition, despite what must have been a rather difficult beginning.

3. The dot over the letter i is called a "tittle".
Also true ... (Grammar nut ...)

4. A raisin dropped in a glass of fresh champagne will bounce up
and down continuously from the bottom of the glass to the top.
I dont know but I wanna try this one!

5. Susan Lucci is the daughter of Phyllis Diller.
I don't know or care who either of these people are.

6. 40% of McDonald's profits come from the sales of Happy Meals.
Walking through the Mall yesterday I saw 20 grown adults eating Happy Meals ... Why? Well, there's that really cool toy for one. For another, Happy Meals are way cheaper than even ordering off the dollar menu and also, its less food so you're not consuming as many calories. So, we're buying em for our kids, we're buying em for ourselves... Its probably higher than 40%.

7. 315 entries in Webster's 1996 Dictionary were misspelled.
Why not? I find typos and mispellings in other books all the time ...

8. The 'spot' on 7UP comes from its inventor, who had red eyes. He was albino.
Thats just kind of cool.

9. On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents, daily.
OMG ... freaky. Although I'd have thought it would be higher.

10. Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine are brother and sister.
Hmm, ok.

11. Chocolate affects a dog's heart and nervous system; a few ounces will kill a small sized dog.
This is true ... As a puppy, you should KNOW this, Benji!

12. Orcas (killer whales) kill sharks by torpedoing up into the shark's stomach from underneath, causing the shark to explode.
I knew they killed sharks but I never heard they exploded them ... Hmm ... Half true maybe? *google's it*

13. Most lipstick contains fish scales (eeww)
God I'm glad I don't wear lipstick.

14. Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn't wear pants.
Yep, I heard about this one on the cartoon network ...

15. Ketchup was sold in the 1830's as medicine.
You can also make ketchup soup ...

16. Upper and lower case letters are named 'upper' and 'lower' because in the time when all original print had to be set in
individual letters, the upper case' letters were stored in the case on top of the case that stored the smaller, 'lower case' letters.
Hehe and its reversed on a typewriter ...

17. Leonardo DA Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time hence, multi-tasking was invented.)
Well ... Sure. He was a genius after all.

18. Because metal was scarce, the Oscars given out during World War II were made of wood.
MMhmm ... Women also sacrificed their nylons during this time so parachutes could be made.

19. There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos.
No there arent. They dont want you to know how much time you've spent in there ... No windows either.

20. The name Wendy was made up for the book Peter Pan; there was never a recorded Wendy before!
The name Wendy was never recorded before but I get the feeling Wendy may have been short for other more formal names ... Like Gwendolyn, for example.

21. There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with: orange, purple, and silver!
Tis true ... Look it up.

22. Leonardo Da Vinci invented scissors. Also, it took him 10 years to paint Mona Lisa's lips.
You'd think he could have done a better job ...

23. A tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion will make it instantly go mad and sting itself to death.
I'd be tempted to try this and see it for myself but I respect life too much.

24. The mask used by Michael Myers in the original "Halloween" was a Captain Kirk's mask painted white.
Yes it was. Get a Captain Kirk mask, paint it white, frizz up the hair ... OMG ITS HIM!

25. If you have three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies, you have $1.19 You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar (good to know.)
I worked as a cashier. This is true.

26. By raising your legs slowly and lying on your back, you can't sink in quicksand (and you thought this list was completely useless.)
I've never been in quicksand but it makes sense ... evenly dispersing the weight.

27. The phrase "rule of thumb" is derived from an old English law, which stated that you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb.
What no floggers?

28. The first product Motorola started to develop was a record player for automobiles. At that time, the most known player on the market was the Victrola, so they called themselves Motorola.
Catchy!

29. Celery has negative calories! It takes more calories to eat a piece of celery than the celery has in it to begin with. It's the same with apples!
Its true! You're a chef! You should KNOW this, pup!

30. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying!
It also helps if you peel and slice the onions under water.

31. The glue on Israeli postage stamps is certified kosher..
Hehehe ... Thats so cool.

32. Guinness Book of Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from Public Libraries.
Which would explain why every geeky teenager in American has a dog earred copy of his or her very own.

33. Astronauts are not allowed to eat beans before they go into space because passing wind in a space suit damages it. I NEED TO REMEMBER THIS
OK that just sounds ridiculous ...

34. George Carlin said it best about Martha Stewart .. "Boy, I feel a lot safer now that she's behind bars. O. J. Simpson and Kobe Bryant are still walking around; Osama Bin Laden too, but they take  the ONE woman in America willing to cook, clean, and work in the yard, and they haul her fanny off to jail."
Typical ...

Allow me to do the same then:

6. 40% of McDonald's profits come from the sales of Happy Meals. Revenue, I agree, it may well be.  PROFIT can only with extreme difficulty be established for a certain product.  So no.

9. On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents, daily.  Where?  In the States, maybe.  Internationally?  Way more.  And for how long does it have to be to count?  Accidentally handing it over, then immediately correcting, or for more than 10 years?  So it doesn't say much, kinda like if I say 12 people die from eating granola bars.

13. Most lipstick contains fish scales (eeww)Maybe a product thereof, but not entire scales, that would be visible, no?

15. Ketchup was sold in the 1830's as medicine.  Everything was at the time...  lol

20. The name Wendy was made up for the book Peter Pan; there was never a recorded Wendy before!  Never a recorded????  It is impossible to prove a negative

21. There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with: orange, purple, and silver!  Prolly not, but you can't prove a negative

25. If you have three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies, you have $1.19 You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar (good to know.)  Easy to prove right

29. Celery has negative calories! It takes more calories to eat a piece of celery than the celery has in it to begin with. It's the same with apples!  Celery, yes.  Apples, no.  Celery is very hard to chew, and has very few nutrients.  Apples have lots of sugar, and are relatively easy to chew.  So 1/2 points

30. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying!  Depends on the person

32. Guinness Book of Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from Public Libraries.  How on earth do you want to prove that??????

33. Astronauts are not allowed to eat beans before they go into space because passing wind in a space suit damages it. I NEED TO REMEMBER THIS  What about the many other foods which give various people gas?

Otherwise, it's all good.  And quite entertaining to read nonetheless!  Just had to point out some of the errors.

Yours,

benji

This is not true.  No animal on this planet can make a shark "explode."  Dolphins attack sharks at the belly, because it causes them to stop swimming and die of suffocation due to lack of oxygen passing through their gills, but shark is not on the orca's normal diet.

Its just a little list I reposted for amusement and I did not attest to the veracity of any of the claims. However I would suppose that they mean that upon the forceful impact and when the stomach would lacerate it would appear that it "exploded" by the sudden burst of entrails. If a human head hits the pavement hard enough people will use the term "exploded on impact". If a shark was laying on the beach, bloated and fat and a giraffe kicked it in the gut it could be considered an "explosion" as opposed to an implosion by some. Giraffes are known to be able to kick and decapitate animals as grizzly bears are known to be able to decapitate buffalo with a swipe of their hand/claw so I feel fairly confident that "some" animals on the planet could kill a shark in a manner that would be considered "explosive" by some.

That Susan Lucci/Phyllis Diller rumor has been around for at least 20 years, maybe longer.  Like Level said, though, it's not true.

I can atest to this not being true.. Not only was I there for Susan's birth but her conception as well..

I can hardly believe that something I can read on the internet would not be entirely full of completly proven facts. I also have a hard time not taking everything I am told as The Gospel According to Saint Whatever. Don't we have a govenrment spying and snooping on us just to keep us from false information?? But then again we don't get much new info out here in the swamps my daddy bought from the same guys that sold us that bridge. Hate painting that bridge. Next thing you know you'll start telling me that there is no Bigfoot. Or Easter Bunny... Damn you Benji!!! Let me live my lies!!!!

Got my 2 pennies in there and will try the quicksand thing on my next trip into the bush.

Loki,

When inventing words, please don't start them off with a typo!  God knows enough people will misspell them as is.

bornge should be borange, otherwise it doesn't rhyme in Canadian
nurple only has 1 p
And quilver is right, sliver tipped quill is not - If people quilver me with slivers, I will be very upset.
