A friend from here has that, and explains it as hearing sound, words even and seeing explosions of pattern and colour in the mind.

This person once described my voice as the colours green, dark blue and purple, intermingling and swirling into each other like a drop of oil seperating on the surface of water on a tarmac road after rain.

There was a study that showed it makes people better able to recognise shapes and patterns.

Excellent post, sunshine.

Expounding upon the notion that what many consider a 'limitation,' can actually be sometimes in practice a greater focus for some.

We should listen to them, as you have demonstrated here.

Going in the opposite direction from synesthesia, many a native tribe learned to put the 'color blind' person at the head of any venture into the forest, because their greater perception of contrast could spot snakes and other naturally colour-camouflaged potential dangers before the normal-sighted members could.

Oh that's brilliant.

I remember the first time I ever heard of this way of seeing the world. i was sitting in my psych 101 class a thousand years ago. I was thumbing through one of my textbooks - which was a collection of academic artiles. There was one on synesthesia. I remember the shock of it and being utterly fascinated. That guy must have the spiciest brain of them all (although it wouldn't be spicy to him - it'd be shiny!)

my ex always went point in the military as he could spot 'camoflauge' due to green/red colourblindness

Here is another video on the same guy in the OP. In this one he learns a (very difficult) new language in a week and fluently converses in the new language. Pretty amazing.
