Well if you think about it, John I lived roughly 800 years ago, so that's 30 or so generations. Each generation you go back doubles the number of direct ancestors, so 30 generations gives you over a billion direct ancestors each. Estimates of the total world population in the year 1200 are less than 500 million. So even if you fudge and round those numbers, each of us is descended from a billion of those 500 million. Mathematically speaking, that's more than "interesting".
