On The Actors' Studio, James Lipton always asks the stars what their favorite curse word is... So what's yours? And feel free to tell a little story.

And to quote the Highlander, there can be only one.


My favorite curse word / phrase:

bloody hell

It just works. I picked up the "bloody" part when I worked with a bunch of Brits a few years ago. I've read a lot of Julie Garwood books - the characters often say "hell", so I picked up that. Now they have become one word for me.

How bout you all?

i have a few English friends who say "bloody hell" a lot, usually when whinging about american politics. =p

anyway, my favorite curse word is actually "fuck."
it has are really nice edge on it, but it can also be beautifully moaned out =p
it's probably the most versatile of the curse words.

there's an art to it, though. some people use it too much, or just don't "sound right" when they say it. my ex had an accent and made it sound lovely. my late M used it LOADS, but his voice was musical and he could say anything and make it sound glorious.

It tends to be some variation of motherfucker. I like to run a string of curse words into one great big wonderful word, always with fuck in there somewhere.

I like variations on the word 'Tits' as it is such a silly sounding and non threatening word.

Mine's in French, and I've been imitating my dad's version of it for years, it's a bunch of words strung into one

maudit-batard-d'enfant-chienne-de-verra

or the much worse, swearing against the church and stringing it all in one again:

estil-d'calice-de-tabarnac.

Well I just had an experience that is relevant to this thread.

There's an ants' nest right outside my front door. I have a kettle full of boiling water in my hand, and I'm marching forth to do battle with the nasty evil things.

I open the door and there's a delivery man right outside it, just standing there (not ringing the doorbell because he could see me coming through the frosted glass, and thought I'd already seen him.)

It turns out that when I'm shocked out of control of my own mouth my curse of choice is 'JESUS FUCK ON A BICYCLE.'

And now the ants are very, very dead.

i say...

bloody hell, although i've also been known on rare occassions to use my nana's favorite which was hell's bells and buckets of blood, which was the child friendly version.
fucking hell,
bollocks, or bollox, as in you're just writing bollox.

and also, borrowed on a perminant basis from my friend, s/he needs a kick in the cunt. it is used for both sex equaly as just a term to mean the person is being well out of order, abreviated to KitC.

You never forget your first... .

I did not come from a family that cursed.

My first exposure to a curse phrase was when I was working at a nursing home after I graduated high school.
There was a guy there that had a favorite phrase and while I had heard or seen the words before (the first part courtesy of my brother's girlie magazines), I had never heard them strung together in exactly that configuration before... or since.

So, with thanks to Sam: "Cock-sucking-son-of-a-bitch'n-bastard".

I have never actually used it myself outloud but it is often in my head.

i mean really now, do you really have to ask?

i have a shitload of "colouful" ones. some i learned back home, but most of them i just make up on the spot, and the ones i like i remember. but since we're only supposed to post one, i'll post my earliest "curse" from my childhood:
