Popeye, OUTSOURCING is a good reason not to vote for Republicans. Did you know that Republicans voted against jobs bills to discourage outsourcing and encourage bringing jobs back to the US? Bill Clinton screwed up by not reading the already written NAFTA before signing it, but now Democrats are trying to bring the jobs back and Republicans are voting NO because they want jobs to stay overseas. Republicans are also against unions that fight for workers to receive fair wages. I understand bashing the mistakes of Democratic leaders, but why don't you speak out more often against Republican mistakes?

Shhh... because that would make him look like an independent.

You're the first person here whom I've observed who points out that Clinton wasn't in fact the AUTHOR.

"Representatives approved NAFTA on November 17, 1993, by a vote of 234 to 200. The agreement's supporters included 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats. NAFTA passed the Senate 61-38. Clinton signed it into law on December 8, 1993; it went into effect on January 1, 1994"

But the guy who SOLD NAFTA to the US was George Herbert Walker Bush 3rd

"Following diplomatic negotiations dating back to 1986 among the three nations, the leaders met in San Antonio, Texas, on December 17, 1992, to sign NAFTA. U.S. President George H. W. Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Mexican President Carlos Salinas, each responsible for spearheading and promoting the agreement, ceremonially signed it. The agreement then needed to be ratified by each nation's legislative or parliamentary branch."

Pops ignores the trurth he finds inconvenient, believe me its been mentioned time after time after time,
I got most peeved about it a few times and upset him with the facts

I agree with Popeye on many issues. Popeye encourages people to buy American made products. When Popeye had his deck built, he made sure it was built by an American worker making at least $20/hr (he mentioned this in an old thread). Popeye has stated several times that he is in favor of single-payer health care. He constantly speaks out against outsourcing. Republicans are opposed to so many of Popeye's views. That's why I get so confused when he spends more time criticizing Democrats than he does Republicans. My favorite politician is from Vermont. His name is Bernie Sanders and he's an Independent.

Lucylastic -> RE: As if we needed another reason to vote against Obama. (6/22/2011 5:34:51 PM)

when he blames nafta for jobs being outsourced to india, yes he is wrong
nafta has naff all to do with india

erieangel -> RE: As if we needed another reason to vote against Obama. (6/22/2011 8:13:21 PM)

It really doesn't matter if Obama loosens border laws. In 2 1/2 years Obama has departed more illegals that Bush did in his 8!!

erieangel -> RE: As if we needed another reason to vote against Obama. (6/22/2011 8:14:28 PM)

Actually Sanders is a socialist.

He's also my hero.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: As if we needed another reason to vote against Obama. (6/22/2011 8:29:55 PM)

Bernie Sanders would be a great president. Unfortunately, he could never raise the funds to run because he refuses to kiss corporate ass.

Actually I paid the guy $25 per hour I think it was. I don't like either of the "big box" parties but I like Democrats the least.
Did you see Oblunder's speech last night? He said something about a "partnership" between Afganistan and the U.S. Does that mean Afganistan will pay us back all that money and start paying it's own share?
So, he's only going to bring the surge troops home and take "15 months" to do  it? What the hell kind of deal is that?
We've been there for ten fuckin years now, if the Afgans can't get their troops trained in that time they deserve the taliban on their asses!

defiantbadgirl -> RE: As if we needed another reason to vote against Obama. (6/22/2011 10:29:34 PM)

I agree that foreign aid needs to end. What did you think about republican politicians promising jobs, then voting against the anti-outsourcing bill?

So let me understand you popeye...your brand of patriotism would have ICE agents bust down the door of an immigrants house...and deport that damm illegal mother and her children.....at the same instant, perhaps, while daddy is on a dangerous andpossibly fatal patrol in Iraq or Afghanistan.
And you are oh so proud of your service aren't you sailor boy....on the one hand you make me sick,on the other I am oh so proud that you would not be caught dead voting for the candidate I vote for.
Semper FI,asshole.

Conservative Mike, I have to give you an "A" for immagination.
You don't want to know what grade I would give you....you really don't.Your lack of imagination is just the tip of the iceberg popeye....but it occurs to me that it is possible you didn't even read your own link.

What do I think about them? I think their constituents need to jam their phones. I think that they need to start throwing eggs at them, I think that they need to slash their tires and I think that they need to vote them out of office.

Here's the problem. Vote the bums out.

That's all we do. Time to solve problems, not continually assign blame.

Why would continually doing the same thing improve the situation? That's how we got here.

Moonhead -> RE: As if we needed another reason to vote against Obama. (6/23/2011 2:05:14 PM)

Sadly, that's the biggest problem with the system of rule by elected scapegoats that's popular in the western world: no fucker in the electorate has to take any responsibility for anything because they can blame it all on people somebody else voted for. That they can do so and then pretend that they aren't part of the problem themselves is utterly pathetic, really.

Did you know this is FALSE?!!

1)  What you're referring to is the "Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act (S. 3816)"

2)  At the time of the vote (Sep 2010), the Dems held majorities in BOTH the House and the Senate -- with the Democrats holding 58 seats to the Republicans 42 seats, thus the Dems only needed TWO Republican votes to pass the Bill with 60 votes. Four Democrats voted AGAINST the Bill, and one didn't even vote!!!

Source:  http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=2&vote=00242#state

4)  The Bill was NOT supported by: The National Association of Manufacturers, The National Foreign Trade Council, the U.S Chamber of Commerce, or TechAmerica.

5)  COMMENTARY AGAINST:

"The best thing Congress can do for Americans right now is lower - not raise - the cost of creating good jobs... This bill would raise taxes on the very job creators that we hope will hire out-of-work Americans, which makes no sense, especially in the middle of a recession."

Source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/28/AR2010092802768.html

"This is not the first time such an anti-outsourcing bill has been placed and it will definitely not be the last time. Such bills will be introduced by politically-motivated US politicians looking at the November election"

"Pradeep Udhas, executive director and head of IT advisory at KPMG, said that India has to prepare to deal with protectionism since factors like ageing population and a sagging economy in the US will put pressure on the job markets. This will force US companies to lay off and reduce workforce, leading to discontent, and politicians will speak the language of the masses."

"The proposed bill was going to penalise companies that outsourced and incentivised those that don't go through tax breaks. But, the proposed tax breaks would not have matched the quantum of savings outsourcing provides. Hence, the companies won't see any sense at all"

"Replacing a job that is based in another country with a US-based job does not stimulate economic growth or enhance the competitiveness of American worldwide companies. The bill would also significantly curtail deferral, reversing long-standing tax policy and subjecting American worldwide companies to immediate double taxation on the earnings of their foreign subsidiaries"

So please stop advancing the notion that the Republicans are in favor of "outsourcing jobs" when the facts do not support this FALSE premise/allegation.

Hardly false then.
