I also noted that his profile's gone. Perhaps revamping. Maybe he's combing his pic collection for a clothed one. Since now we're left to "talk amongst ourselves", I'll mention something I noticed while reading the thread. Really? Now I am only a lowly female so I obviously can't know all that much about binary, but in my very limited understanding I was always under the impression that binary works with 1 and 0 or Yes and NO, so those who do (understand) and those who don't... But hey, maybe I just don't understand?

Write to them as women first and mention something about what you've read in their profiles. No one likes to get a generic letter and feel like they're just one of the masses that you're writing to. They want to feel special. And put a clothed picture up as your primary photo. For a lot of women, this is NOT just about sex, it IS about relationships. ~Hisprettybaby~

C'mon, this has nothing to do with gender. And the way you describe binary is fine. I'm an English Major, not a Computer Scientist. But my quibble lies in Logic. The humour is in the fact that the 10 types of people (in binary, or "base 2") is actually 2 types of people (in "base ten", our conventional counting method). I'm not saying you misunderstood or misrepresented that. Let's call these 2 groups A and B. In your first sentence you say that "everyone" = A + B... and both A and B understand binary ("two types...who understand binary"). In your second sentence you say that A does understand binary, but B doesn't. That's internally inconsistent. B can't both understand it and not understand it. In the version I wrote, line one simply establishes "everyone" = A + B. Line two says A understands, B doesn't. And lets the dissonance between the reader's expectation of 10 but receiving only 2 provide the irony/shock/humour. Just sayin'. Regards, LD

Wow. See, LonDom, that kind of post, made in public, can't be seen as ANYTHING but belittling. The rest of us have had no trouble gettting the joke without having to parse the thing. If you had issue with Lady C's verbiage, you could have written her privately. Yet you chose to try and make her look foolish here. And THAT, for all you males reading, is what NOT to do to another person.

That's fine, I'm an English PhD and English happens to be my 3rd language, but you know I have the same tag line and had it for years in some computer geek forums, none of the people there had any problem with it... Actually by making it an issue about grammar, you showed that you didn't understand the joke, oddly enough most techies get it... So I just leave it as it is, let me say that much, it is a play on words and binary, even without understanding much about binary, I would have expected an English Major to get the joke... Irony is not the land where the Ironians live...
