Dearborn, MI had a huge muslim population LONG before Obama ever became president. anyone who has any sense of reality (or who had ever been there) would be aware of that. one of my relatives lived near there for a while and said you could hear the call to prayer from the mosque all over -- but is that any different from hearing the bells from a catholic church all over town? the christian religion plays a HUGE part in policy-making. i have seen news articles from more well-regarded sources about instances like this; there was a case in Germany in 2007, a judge denied a divorce and gave a man a pass on beating and threatening his wife because he was from Morocco and the judge believed he had a "right" to beat his wife due to his religion ( but, as far as i know, she's no longer a judge). there were also some incidents of people being arrested, in Dearborn, MI, for distributing Christian religious information to people in areas where Muslims were prone to gather (converting muslims is against sharia law). To conflict with those, there's this court case -- http://www.michbar.org/opinions/appeals/2009/040709/42377.pdf -- where a man tried to divorce his wife and take her rights away by flying to India and saying "i divorce thee" three times, which is apparently allowed as a form of divorce for muslims in India. The appeals court in Michigan overturned it. i think sometimes that stuff happens because the law enforcement agencies are trying to keep conflict from happening, but it bothers me when any form of law or a court starts following along with the doctrines of any religion. honestly i think there is A LOT of fear for some people that if they don't go along with some things, they'll be retaliated against, whether or not the people in question WOULD actually retaliate against them. but there are other people who just say "well the law here in the US is the law" and they enforce that. i don't really think america is at any real risk of some widespread "shariafication" conspiracy. =p i think that's just the mental wanderings of a very paranoid, very frightened person.
