He signed the bill and just 2 weeks later the state has lost millions in lost produce. And if he hadn't signed the bill, everything would be just peachy down there right? Sorry, I am having a hard time buying that line.

Even sadder are some of the comments there and elsewhere at the bottom of another of Jay's blog.

Well, boi, the illegal migrant workers didn't want to take a chance on being deported so they went to bordering states to work and none of the locals that like to bitch about "Them damn illegals takin our jobs" are willing to work that hard for that kind of $.

Some of you people need to educate yourself. We already have a guest worker program, and I believe it's called the H1-b Visa program. All the growers have to do is come clean and they can get as much legal help as they want.

Yo, goober, why don't you read up on how hard it is to get on that program, and how long it takes. Educate your own ignorant self. Duh.

Cucky, I am VERY familiar with that program. It took us 10 months to get a guest worker visa for an Argentinian Electron Microscopist at a company I used to work for.

Wanna multiply that by 10,000 to pick fuckin beans?

H-1B Work Visa Eligibility Requirements: The H-1B Non-Immigrant Work Visa may be issued to applicants seeking temporary work in a "Specialty Occupation" which requires the skills of a professional. "Specialty Occupations" include: accounting, computer analysts, programmers, database administrators, web designers, engineers, financial analysts, doctors, nurses, scientists, architects and lawyers. The petitions are submitted by employers based on their need for the non-US.-resident employee. H1-B Visa holders must posses a minimum of a bachelor's degree.

That definition got hi-larious when it got to listing "web designers" and "financial analysts" as requiring professional skills!
