If the endeavour cannot continue unfinanced, how are they giving Obama exclusive ownership?

By washing their hands of it. The funding bill was sneaky. It claimed to deny funding, but would have amounted to an authorization.

Ah, just as I suspected. An underhanded attempt to distance themselves will supporting it at the same time.

It was John Boner at his manliest.

But you were right about it being a meaningless factoid.
Today will go down in history as the day John Boner reached across the aisle for Barney Frank's lap.

I think the WPR, flawed as it may be, does matter, Mike. We have two very specific aspects to waging war laid out in the Constitution. Congress declares war, and the President is tasked with carrying it on. I happen to think that the ongoing presence of armed aircraft over a foreign capitol, targeting the "king" amounts to a declaration of war, with or without the formal paperwork.

slvemike4u -> RE: Whats going on in the House (6/24/2011 9:46:28 PM)

If we can simply agree that I am most always( I will allow for a typing error) right....we can save both of us needless posts [:)]

No, Tazzy. They haven't supported it. They have refused to answer the 'do you still beat your wife,' question. Now are they trying to hide big grins about just what a gift of an issue the President has given them on a silver platter? Yeah. I'd say they are.

errantgeek -> RE: Whats going on in the House (6/24/2011 10:08:57 PM)

Ahh, yes...bombing the fuck out of brown and black people is only bad when a Democrat does it.

I'd say "when a dark-skinned guy does it" but dark skinned guys doing it to their own people overseas is totally cool, as long as it serves our interests. Not to mention the mass wailing from the right when Clinton did it, too.

Not sure how much of a gift that will play out to be. Its just as easy to ask... "You dont support it but you allowed it to be funded? Can you explain?"

You have no idea what you are talking about.

That makes me feel better about having no idea what you are talking about either.

Care to have another go at whatever point it was you tried to make?

Oh, always... except when your idea is in conflict with mine of course[:D]

Something I think we can both agree on....
(referring to the quote above) What a chickenshit 'majority' they're running

Sure. Every one of those Representatives can go home, or on tv, and say "I voted "x" way." They weren't blowout votes. Only one person can be held to a final account.

On the gift side, the '12 campaign now gets phrases like "imperial presidency," to throw around, and I'm sure somebody will say "investigation," and we could even have some fringe freaks insisting it's an impeachable offense.

WTF? Why in the hell do we bother having a checks and balances system if congress is too fucking gutless to actually CHECK the Prez when he gets it wrong. We have zero business there. Zero.

Deny AND defund.

Assholes.

tazzygirl -> RE: Whats going on in the House (6/24/2011 10:31:16 PM)

Impeachable? How so when they allowed it to continue?

I agree with you, Bita. Im just not getting it either.

TheHeretic -> RE: Whats going on in the House (6/24/2011 10:47:45 PM)

Check the defunding bill, Tazzy. It was an authorization as well. Two proposals went up, they didn't like either option they were presented with. This isn't over.

I don't know how it will play out. I do know it has been a long week, and the margaritas have made me sleepy.

Have a good night.

The rejected money-cutoff bill, sponsored by Rooney, would have barred drone attacks and airstrikes but allowed the United States to continue actions in support of the NATO-led operation such as intelligence gathering, refueling and reconnaissance. The effort to cut off money was defeated, 238-180. While GOP leaders backed the measure, they didn't pressure Republicans to support it.

This was the second to defund, which didnt pass. I cant find the voting record, only this mention of the actual numbers.

Do the words "Operation Ajax", Laos, Cambodia, "Salvador Allende" and "Augusto Pinochet", Nicaragua, Panama, Grenada, Afghanistan (round 1, not Bush the Lesser's little clusterfuck), al-Faw, al-Basrah, Halabjah, "Oliver North", "Charles Taylor" (we sheltered the mother fucker), "Muammar Gaddafi" (we liked him when Bush II was in office!), have any meaning to you whatsoever as pertains to this conversation? And that's what I could mention off the top of my head.

If not, kindly shut the fuck up.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Whats going on in the House (6/25/2011 5:13:40 AM)

~FR~

Yes our elected servants show they are doing things just for political reasons, yet again. Every one of those that voted against defunding should be voted against when they come up for re-election. Some people say we need a revolution, well a vote against all incumbents would send a message.

As far as whether something is a war or not, ask yourself if a foreign country were bombing us, what would we call it? We definately would say that it is an act of war.

Maybe more like this and people will wake up that we are being led around like sheep, and stop following blindly. Everyone that says the House should have held the President accountable, should remember to hold their politicians accountable by not voting for them.

Welllll, what do we have here ...

I think Heretic is correct ... state your point in a clear and concise manner, please.  As it relates to the topic at hand.

Otherwise, you quickly be classified in the "clueless conspiracy hater" category.
