So if I want a husband- I should shop at the husband discount outlet warehouse.

You would need to stop being insane first.

Congrats to NY!!!!!

Have no fear...Andy will sign it.

Yeah.  He pushed for this bill's passage.

I read an article that stated that NY has such a high population that the number of gay couples in states that permit them to marry, more than doubled after this bill passed.

And that NY just became a tourist destination for gay couples.  Take in a few sights, get married, and spend a few bucks.  Won't hurt the economy.

I'm thinking Jersey is next because of the whole Tri-State area thing.

CT and NY and MA and VT all have marriage equality. While NJ "recognizes" out-of-state ssm, if *I* worked in New Jersey but lived in New York, I'd want my boss to both recognize and honor my NY marriage.

And if I worked in NY, but lived in Jersey, I'd be asking my legislators how come I don't have the same rights at home as I do at work...

Senator Roy McDonald:

"You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing," McDonald, 64, told reporters. "You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, fuck it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing."

"I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this."

FR

I think it's great that they will now help support the divorce lawyers.

That's only a half joke really. With the divorce rate among straights, what makes anyone think this will be any different ? I can see it now, suing for separate maintenance, alimony, who gets the house ? The car, the stereo, the pickup truck. I've seen enough Women selling their ex'es tools, how is that going to work out ? And what about pets ? If they're kinky are they going to fight over a slave ? Not to mention the toys.

Don't get me wrong, I know there are good reasons for this, like joint credit, putting the other on the health plan and all that. But I wouldn't be surprised if some homosexuals eventually come to find themselves against the idea.

I bet next poly marriages come up. I'm sure divorce lawyer will be all for it. Think, when two people get married, eventually half of them make two lawyers rich. Now it can be three, four or five, who knows. Man if we get the Mormons involved in this all hell will break loose ! (psuedopun intended, I think)

This is great news. My son, though he is not in a relationship presently, is thrilled and he is saying pa will be next. Maybe. PA does tend to pass laws that correspond with laws of our neighboring states.

Evidently, His Honor, da Guv, waited until 1 minute after midnite to sign.  Something about he couldn't legally sign on day-of-passage.

Congratulations New York!

Not my absolute fav place in the whole wide world but this moves it up the ladder a few rungs.

We're still waiting for it to happen here. Polls say >60% of Australians support it. There is a bill before the current Parliament but it's not expected to succeed as things stand. Everyone knows it's going to happen, the only question is when. I expect 2-3 years.
