YYK Seems YYK is the initials of the company which makes metal zippers and fasteners.

you know, i never once wondered why the fucking manufacturer's name would be on the product they produce. i guess i'm just fucking weird because i actually expect it to be there some fucking place.

I think the fucking point was the YKK shows up on every fucking thing with a zipper, no matter who it is manufactured by. I could be fucking wrong though. Not fucking likely though...

While zippered items may be manufactured by one place, sans zipper, almost all of the zippers are manufactured by YKK (Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha). http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/question469.htm

I know its the manufacturers thing.....it has always been amazing to me that one company has such a grip on one market though. YKK zippers are on everything. Of course, I am easily fucking entertained. eta no sisters need to be harmed in the making of this thread!

heather and i did a quick check of the shit we have out (we are unpacking from one fucking trip and packing for another) and of 6 pairs of jeans, 4 shorts, 1 pair of slacks and a pair of men's dress pants, 2 sweaters, 4 coats, a suitcase, a laptop bag, a backpack, a cooler bag, and a tote bag, only 3 items have ykk zippers, so they aren't really all that fucking universal. maybe its got to do with the quality of the stuff, none of ours is fucking designer shit. eta not even if she likes being hurt

Actually YKK zippers are very high quality but far from universal. And, duh.

Of the five coats on the pegs behind me, two are YKK, two are unmarked but have a distinctive shape and are identical to each other, and one has a L with a semicircle around it.
