Status: offline 		I'm glad you've found everybody's opinions worthwhile. Now I'll give you the actual answer to your question.

A "slave" is a submissive who identifies as a slave, and a "submissive" is a slave who identifies as a submissive.

That's the only answer you're really going to get.... it will be dressed up in ribbons and lace and prepositional phrases and examples, but it's still that same answer. (except of course the actual historical, legal stuff which I don't think you are asking)
