SilverMark -> Bachman, Romney in a dead heat in Iowa, guess who is in Iowa today to unveil her "documentry" (6/27/2011 3:41:33 AM)

OK, so if Bachman performs well, is she a threat anywhere but the upper Midwest to Romney?
The attention seeking missile unveils her so called "Documentary" in Iowa, yet she is certainly not looking to up-stage her fellow Republicans or garner more attention....is she?
Is Pawlenty all but out in Iowa eventhough he has spent a ton of money?

Let's here it analysts!

Romney is still the man to beat.  He's gonna take NH, and needs the momentum from that to carry him through the primary.

Palin and Gingrich are trying to get as much PR as possible.  Gingrich's entire staff has left him and last I heard, he either couldn't or hadn't gotten around to replacing them.  Palin's not bothered to assemble a staff last I heard.  They're not real contenders.  The difference between them is that Newt is still doing standard campaigning - speaking and fundraising, while Palin keeps coming up with novel ways to make it look like she's in the race without actually announcing or doing anything conventional.  Gingrich is supposed to the the brains of the field, and Palin the dumbass, but she makes him look like a fool.

Palin's real threat is to Bachmann.  All support she'll get will be at Bachmann's expense.  If she knocks Bachmann down in Iowa, Bachmann is done.  I'm not sure what kind of deal they could cut legally, but Bachmann should be eager to do one.  Frankly, I'm surprised that she's in a dead heat with Romney in Iowa - I thought that she'd win it handily.  Her strategy is to take Iowa and establish herself as the only alternative to Romney throughout the primary.

Huntsman is starting to come from behind.  His hope is that Bachmann falters, in which case, he presents himself as the alternative to Romney.  He still has to present himself as being significantly different than Romney, though.

Pawlenty was a second tier candidate.  He hurt his chances in the GOP debate and then his waffling explanations made it worse.  Forget him.

Oh god, will somebody buy me cable?   This is gonna be a laff-a-thon and a half.

erieangel -> RE: Bachman, Romney in a dead heat in Iowa, guess who is in Iowa today to unveil her "documentry" (6/27/2011 7:12:31 AM)

Palin isn't going to run. No way will she give up her lucrative speaking engagements, etc., for the hard work it takes to win and then run the WH. And she knows it will be hard work, something Palin has proven time and again she is allergic to.

Lucylastic -> RE: Bachman, Romney in a dead heat in Iowa, guess who is in Iowa today to unveil her "documentry" (6/27/2011 7:52:18 AM)

Romney is the best of a bad bunch.
Bachman is popular but just too over the top crazy.
Id vote for romney over bachman tho.even tho I wouldnt vote for him in a kagillion years
luckily that point is moot tho

Aside from her more outlandish claims I know little of Bachman, but she does like to stretch the truth a bit according to politifact

My problem with Bachman is simple. Its the same one I mentioned on the Atheist thread. Our elected officials can be whatever religion they please. When they start "leading" based upon their faith, they stop representing some segment of our population.

Who wants a woman in office who relies upon prayer to make or break laws in this country?

I think it will end up being Romney in the end, unless there is some lesser known that comes charging forward.

Bachmann is smarter than Palin and can cover her crazy better. She will draw the same sort of crazies that Palin did. But ultimately, I think the powers that be will only use her for as long as she is an asset then ditch her. She is too inconsistent and whacko to be take seriously as an electable national politician.

Palin is finished running for any sort of office. She prefers the fame and fortune but as others have said, is too lazy, and just purely doesn't have what it takes for a run.

This is what we have to look forward too....

SCHIEFFER: I want to ask you about something else. A lot of your critics say you have been very fast and loose with the truth.

You know, the PolitiFact, which is a website that won a Pulitzer, did an analysis of 23 statements that you made recently. Of these 23, only one they said was completely true. Seven they call "pants on fire" kind of falsehoods. Four were "barely true" and two were "half- true."

How do you answer that criticism?

Because here's one of them. You know, you said on the record there had been only one offshore oil drilling permit during the Obama administration. And in fact, at that time, there had been 270. How do you explain that?

BACHMANN: Well, you know, I think that what's clear more than anything is the fact that President Obama has not been issuing the permits that he should have been issuing on offshore drilling. That's why we're in the problems we're in.

SCHIEFFER: But it has to be more than 300 now. At that time, there had been 200-and-something, and you said there had been only one.

BACHMANN: But, as far as drilling goes, we hadn't been drilling what we need to. That's why we just saw this week...

SCHIEFFER: But that's different, isn't it?

BACHMANN: Well, that's why, this week, it's ironic and sad that the president released all of the oil from the Strategic Oil Reserve because the president doesn't have an energy policy.

SCHIEFFER: Do you think that was a good move?

BACHMANN: He has a politically correct environmental policy.

SCHIEFFER: Was that a good thing?

BACHMANN: It was a very bad move. It put -- it has made the United States more vulnerable. There's only a limited amount of oil that we have in the Strategic Oil Reserve. It's there for emergencies.

We do not -- the emergency that we have is the fact that the -- the president of the United States has failed to give the American people an energy policy.

Here's the good news that a lot of Americans don't even realize. We are the number one energy-resource-rich nation in the world, according to the Congressional Research Service. But the president of the United States has unfortunately put American energy resources off- limits. We need to open those up so we can bring down the price of gasoline at
the pump. The president has it exactly wrong when it comes to energy.

SCHIEFFER: Just quickly, though, the original question I asked you is all of these statements that you have made that have later proven to be sort of true or totally false in some cases -- what's your answer when people say that to you? Do you feel you have misled people?

BACHMANN: No, I haven't misled people at all. I think the question would be asked of President Obama, when you told the American people that, if we borrow $1 trillion from other countries and spend it on a stimulus, that we won't have unemployment go above 8 percent, and today, as we are sitting here, it's 9.1 percent and the economy is tanking -- that is what's serious. That's a very serious statement that the president made.

Did he mislead the American people? Not only did he mislead the American people, he's caused our economy to go down to depths that we haven't seen. That's what's serious.

SCHIEFFER: Again, I have to say, Congresswoman, I asked you a question and you -- to my knowledge, I don't believe you answered it. But I want to thank you. I know you're -- you're very excited about what happened out in Iowa and we wish you the best. Hope to see you down the trail.

BACHMANN: Thank you, Bob.

SCHIEFFER: Thank you.

It'd be nice to see less fawning interviews where the fuckwers were actually forced to answer the questions they're asked.
With a cattle prod if necessary...

Whats noteworthy about that is that Wallace is supposed to be a real journalist, in the tradition of Walter Cronkite.
