(I'm kicking my dear departed mother for throwing out that Beatles lunchbox I had in 3rd grade, it's worth some bucks now....)

Oh, that's a whole other thread: I had a full set of those Star Wars bubblegum cards chucked at one point: the red ones and the blue ones both...

In my day we'd only heard of him because he was in Escape From New York. [8|]

windchymes -> RE: You know you're getting old... (7/1/2011 11:07:13 AM)

Very much so, subangi! My favorite part was running to the kitchen to get my milk and cookies during the last commercial and be back in time for the role call, and being so excited when my name got called....which was about once a week, lol.

FR

When FM wasn't even stereo and in Cleveland WJW hadn't even had their call letters changed to WJKW.

Or when there was no FM. No FM in cars, no FM ANYWHERE. Sure FM came out a very long time ago, like in the 1930s, but we didn't hear it until when ?

Have you ever seen a record player for a car ? I have, not that I was born when it was invented, but........

And know the difference between an octal tube and a locktal tube.

And did anyone here EVER have a black and white TV as their ONLY TV ?

T^T

I remember when there were only about three televisions in the whole street! all b/w, and none in our house.
Three channels.
Test card & shut down.

I got yall beat, before TV we used to listen to radio, not just for music and news but stories, too. Records that you played on your hi-fi were 78s. Gas fixtures instead of electricity, all cars were stick, phones where you had to call the operator first and give your number, "party lines," long distance was a big production, you had to call the operator and she would call you back when she got through.

Doctors made house calls, butchers gave you free bones for the dog, the vegetable man traveled down the street with his cart and horse, and the milk man delivered.

You could give your kid money to go to the store for you and buy cigarettes or alcohol. Processed food hardly existed, microwaves (and dishwashers) were unheard of, people had to actually cook.

Every community had a local theater, and Saturday afternoons there was a double feature for a quarter. Gas was 16 cents a gallon but let's not go there.

You know how to take shorthand...(even if you can't take it as fast as you once did).  The fact that you even know what shorthand is is enough actually.
