I never heard of tomatsmor. Perhaps my Norwegian family came from a different part of Norway? Or maybe since they left there in the 19th century they hadn't heard of such a thing? And yes, they were indeed heathens, Ron. Because that's the way Granny always made it for us.

Granny came from above the Arctic Circle, a little town on one of the fjords. Grampa came from a farm outside of Oslo, but he didn't do the cooking!!

Bumping for Ron... (slurp) I didn't know there were so many other Norwegian deviants on these boards. Too cool. I recently found the Ellis Island foundation site. I located an ancestor's info on there. She arrived on Oct 28, 1896. Ship of travel was the Teutonic. Her last place of residence was Xania (Greece, I think.) She was 22 and single at the time of arrival and headed to Philadelphia. I suppose from there she or her descendants headed to Minnesota where my dad was born. I guess LDR and mail order brides are nothing new! [:D]

As I recall - it's been a while - he did give me an address once but it didn't pan out. Some old dude called Olaf answered the door and didn't know who Ron is. I blew him but it wasn't the same.
