I'm still trying to figure out the connection between being a man and disliking chocolate.

K.

I'm sure it's some folks take on the effects that are produced by the brain between the genders over chocolate.  Scientific studies show that the brain produces higher endorphin levels after women consume chocolate, yet the same does not happen in males.

How is not taking a parental role in with someone else's kids, not liking them, or not wanting them there? It makes sense to me in a way to not discipline someone elses kids, if your not comfortable going there. to me it's not, not liking them, or not wanting them, it's feeling that it's not your place to do so.

Tammy...i assume you entered a degree program for the nursing degree...and while working on your nursing degree you just happened to earn a bachelors degree in psych?

Well. . . aren't the first two years of any baccalaureate program pretty much the same? I think that you would be able to get a double major. If you stretched it out to five or six years you could probably do it easily. I am not really sure though. Aren't there nurse psychologist type people? (I have no idea what the technical title would be.)

Sure, but degree programs of any type tend to be tight fit straitjackets. (I used to be in university administration.) Even undergrads need permissions to take classes outside of their degree program. The only exception is if you are not even in a degree program, then you can take what you want, but you are going to be at the bottom of the priority list as far as getting into a specific class, b/c you don't need the class to get a degree.

Universities these days are all about processing undergrad AND graduate students through the program so they can maintain or even improve retention and graduation rates. I directed a graduate level program for years (200 MS students; 300 PHD), and I can assure you, PHD students (who have the most flexibility in terms of what classes they get to take, well depending on their program of study they CAN have) are carefully monitored to ensure they are progressing along the required steps toward their degree.

I am not saying you can't get both a nursing and psychology degree on the undergrad level, of course you can. What I *am* saying is that would have to be planned out in advance and approved by your advisor.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Fibro, school, house of 6 (7/15/2011 10:51:26 AM)

Times have changed so much! I had no problem finishing two degree requirements ages ago, and there was no fussing over it.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Fibro, school, house of 6 (7/15/2011 10:59:21 AM)

I don't know about two degrees at once but I remember going to college full time (Psych, Sociology, Anthropology) while working and taking dance classes during the time I wasn't at school. My free time consisted entirely of either Saturday or Sunday afternoon, I don't remember which. It was exhausting but doable and I don't see why some here think it impossible for Tammy to have gotten 2 degrees at once, especially spread out over a long period of time.

People go for dual degrees all the time these days -- that's why you need an advisor's approval, to make sure you are taking the correct courses to fulfill both degrees, without too much overlap or too few core classes. Since a dual degree is a course of study that has to be created for the individual, only an academic advisor can/should do that. Else you could be in your last semester and learn you have to take course XYZ to graduate, and it's only offered every three years.

Though I am sure universities vary as far as how much advisor approval is necessary to take courses outside of your chosen degree track, the days of being able to take a bundle of courses and call it a degree or dual degree have long since passed.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Fibro, school, house of 6 (7/15/2011 11:10:17 AM)

Hmmm.... I remember I went to find out what the requirements for the History degree were, sucked through them, and decided to do the Anthropology degree requirements too. It did take planning, the University of Michigan loves making things tricky for students! I had to scramble to get TWO missing "anything" credits my final semester. I can't for the life of me remember meeting with an advisor, though we did have to fill out forms and such. It was not a haphazard process, anyway. When I changed majors there was stuff to fill out, too.

Ah, those were the days!
