Bachmann puts this crap in her speeches. These are not verbal mistakes, these are actual planned gaffes that she is fucking up. In other words, she heard a long time ago John Wayne lived in Waterloo, and she probably didn't hear "Gacy", just the John Wayne part, and then she decided it would sound good in her speech. Unlike thoughtful people, she just went with it. She did not fact check herself. She did not take 30 seconds with google to see if her memory was accurate. Even on this forum I find myself fact checking what I write, and this forum is not all that important to me, not nearly as important as lets say a paper I am writing for one of my classes. You would think that she would take time to have people check her "facts" (or she would) before saying something like that.
Now, is it a big deal? Well that depends on what sort of person you want to have as president. I do not want someone who does not fact check themselves about something as easily known as the birth place of the original John Wayne when using him for patriot cred. I do not want a rash person who does not check before acting, who is hasty and goes with what they "think" they know.
Bachmann isn't dumb. I think she is a religious nutbag, but I would never call her stupid. But I also think she doesn't care about facts, or how she acts on what she thinks she knows, and as president that could be deadly for all of us.
In context her gaffe is worse than any Bushism or misspeaking of Obama.
Damn - that's a good post, and a razor-sharp analysis. I've never seen anyone lay it out quite like that before. Nicely done!
