GhitaAmati -> best friends.... (6/28/2011 7:58:12 AM)

How many of you consider your significant other to be your best friend? Or do you have a significant other AND a best friend.

If you use the term "best friend" to describe someone other than your significant other, explain please.

Thanks.

GreedyTop -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 8:07:41 AM)

I have quite a few 'best friends', regardless of gender.

they are best friends for various reasons... not all the same in a lot of ways.

the commonality is that I *get* them and they *get* me/...

Sadly, I have not yet found an SO that *GETS* that.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 8:19:38 AM)

my SO was my best friend, yep.

best friends, to me, are the ones who are there even when things aren't so great. you can talk to each other about anything. like GT said, you "get" each other. i think you can have more than one best friend at a time.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 8:38:28 AM)

I have a SO and a best friend.  I call my best friend "my brother from another mother" because we are like family.  The bond I have with my husband goes beyond best friend.

He is my closest friend. The one who will not judge me for my feelings. I've never gotten that acceptance from anyone else.

My husband was my best friend when we were together. Our relationship started as friends and turned into love, and I think that is why that worked so well.

Now my ex boyfriend, he was never my best friend. We were intense lovers but I don't feel he "got" me the way that my other best friends do.

I find that you can have many acquaintances, and just a few best friends; those you can count on to be there for you always. I call them the "3am'ers",

I also believe that you cannot expect to get everything you need from one person; different friends fulfill different needs.

Sometimes Generic Dude seems like my best friend and other times..........not so much so. His own stuff sometimes keeps him from accepting some of my stuff. There is a lot that we do not talk about because of that.

There are women that I have been closer to in that regard but they have gone other paths. So mostly, I am my own best friend.

Aileen1968 -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 4:01:08 PM)

Yup. He's my best friend.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 4:59:18 PM)

I don't have an SO right now, but I do have some best friends. I think that best friends are those with whom you can talk about anything & they won't judge you. And they are there for you when you are down as well as when you are up. I've had acquaintances who I had to remove from my life because although they thought of me as their best friend, I found them to be what I call "soul-suckers". I am there for my best friends like they are for me.

My ex-husband & His Evilness fall into that category. I have "borrowed" money a couple of times from the ex & then not been able to pay him back & he always tells me that he's ok with that, that I need to take care of myself first. If the situations were reversed, I would do the same for him. There are very few people who really do "get" me & the ones who do are valued above & beyond!

LadyPact -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 6:04:21 PM)

I would have to say that MP is My best friend.  I think because we move around every few years, I tend to have other best friends per location.  Really great people that I am so glad that I've had in My life.

Hillwilliam -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 7:39:04 PM)

This is EXACTLY how I feel about Master. I do have a dear female friend that has been my closest pal since we were sophomores in high school and I can tell her MOST anything without fear of judgment but not quite as much as I can Him. I feel that, other than my mother, He loves and cares for me more than anyone else in the world. He's truly my closest friend..........luci

littlewonder -> RE: best friends.... (6/28/2011 8:53:03 PM)

He's one up among the others

I have two best friends, one because she gets me, she is always there, day or night. Even if we only see each other in person once a year or less, we talk damn near everyday. We know secrets about each other that nobody else would ever guess. I trust her with my life, I know I can, because I have. I love you, Mistoferin, always will.

The other because he also has always got me. Because I get him, his dreams. Because he shares his special world, his beautiful inner self with me. Because I know I could call him right now, and no matter what, he'd fly, drive, whatever, to be here for me. I trust him with my inner self, I know I can, because I have. I love you Wulf, no matter what.

girlygurl -> RE: best friends.... (6/29/2011 12:02:43 AM)

I have many that I would consider a best friend. Just like Greedy said, different genders, and for different reasons.

I do consider Sir to be one of my best friends. I suppose, He above all, knows me best. He does not judge me, and my success and happiness in life is a priority for Him.
