Father of a 2 1/2 yr old daughter, 9 wk old son killed in the line of duty on Jun 28th/11 by a 15 yr old driver in a minivan, 3 other friends along for the ride. This constable, soon to be promoted to Sergeant, pulled the minivan over in a routine traffic stop only to have them accelerate and drage him for 300 meters before the van flipped and pinned him under at the waist.
He still had the presence of mind to radio his position, his injuries AND worry about the medical status of the 4 young people in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at hospital on arrival.
Please, please, pray for this young officer and the needless loss of life. His young family is suffering immensely as is his police family and the community. Part of the 911 tape has been released, showing his concern for those who did this to him.
I'm appalled and shocked that such a thing could happen, that such a promising young life was cut short, that a wife and 2 children will grown up without a husband and father. Police deaths always hit me hard since my dad used to be an auxiliary with the OPP in the 70's. I remember the sleepless nights my mom had waiting for him to come home safe and sound.
This is indeed another sad day in the protection duty of all those who serve us with no reservations to their own safety. Be they police officers, firefighters, EMTs, etc.
RIP Constable Garrett Styles. May your memory never be forgotten, may you children know you were a hero to many people.
