I was going to get a pair of those, Lilly for the MCM because a friend who was training for the same race swore by them but then she ended up blowing out a knee 6 weeks before the marathon & couldn't train.  I believe it was because they just don't offer the necessary support for runners.  Sure they teach you how to run on the balls of your feet but little else.

did she give herself time to get used to them? they compare it to, most specifically, a tribe in south america where people run insane distances wearing little to nothing on their feet. of course they've been doing that for generations and they grow up doing that, whereas we in america generally don't. =p
i spend most of my time without shoes (even outside, haha =p which is a great excuse for lots of at-home pedicures) and when i started running i got a minimally soled/padded pair of shoes because i've had more trouble exercising in more heavily-padded shoes than without them. lots of arch pain, and either my toes are bunched up, or the shoe's too long; there's always something wrong. the ones i have are REALLY thin, but they're great and my knees feel better than they had in recent times (of course, getting rid of that 20 lbs probably helped with that. =p)
i think it depends a lot on your habits and how much time you give yourself to get used to them.

Lilly, yes she trained for several months using those.  It could have been pre-existing issues in her knees.  She's in shape, young so I don't know what went wrong.
Like everything else I'm sure they work for some & don't for others.
My son-in-law wore them to my place last week & he hates them for everyday walking, he calls them his "pool shoes" and can't imagine anyone running in them.

a lot of younger females develop problems with their knees, particularly chondromalacia but that might not be what her problem was. i've got it in my right knee, which i blame on marching band. they don't see it as a sport so they don't teach you a lot of safety stuff like they do with sports.
i have one friend who loves his, and others who've tried them and HATE them. =p
