did she give herself time to get used to them? they compare it to, most specifically, a tribe in south america where people run insane distances wearing little to nothing on their feet. of course they've been doing that for generations and they grow up doing that, whereas we in america generally don't. =p i spend most of my time without shoes (even outside, haha =p which is a great excuse for lots of at-home pedicures) and when i started running i got a minimally soled/padded pair of shoes because i've had more trouble exercising in more heavily-padded shoes than without them. lots of arch pain, and either my toes are bunched up, or the shoe's too long; there's always something wrong. the ones i have are REALLY thin, but they're great and my knees feel better than they had in recent times (of course, getting rid of that 20 lbs probably helped with that. =p) i think it depends a lot on your habits and how much time you give yourself to get used to them.
