Hardly, your sarcasm meter, as usual, is defunct.

I would be behind congress cutting that mandate out of the law.

Cut the mandate, the law wont work.

Those "forced" to pay are those who can afford to pay.

Close. Cut the mandate, the law wont work. Those "forced" to pay are those who are forced to subsidize everyone else with premiums higher than they would face for their own coverage.

tazzygirl -> RE: Health Care Act Insurance Mandate Lawful (6/29/2011 1:41:40 PM)

Greece seems to be on their way up.

Termyn8or -> RE: Health Care Act Insurance Mandate Lawful (6/29/2011 1:42:15 PM)

The mandate is very dumb. The result will be more people working under the table. Why pay taxes on a legit income when you can't get fucking credit anyway ? More small S corps with people working 12 hours a week. Don't tattle on yourself and volunteer to pay taxes and you don't have to pay this either. Win win. And with no verifiable income you can pled poverty and get care for free anyway. Got any idea how many people are already doing that ?

This whole thing is worth shit. Either socialize the motherfucker or don't. This is so halfassed I bet even the worst countries are having a laugh about it.

T^T

Health care should be nationalized. No argument here.

16 percent unemployment... something we really want here, right? [;)]

tazzygirl -> RE: Health Care Act Insurance Mandate Lawful (6/29/2011 2:29:44 PM)

How about those riots there as well? Yep.. something we really want here.

lovmuffin -> RE: Health Care Act Insurance Mandate Lawful (6/29/2011 2:36:22 PM)

This is worth posting again on Greece...........

"This is what happens when the government creates an extreme sense of entitlement through a nanny state welfare system. Ultimately, it is unsustainable and try to remove entitlements once you give it to the people in a corrupt attempt to buy votes in the short term. A lot of other EU countries will follow suit."

Can't wait for the universal healthcare to kick-in - a couple of years and there won't be any more blobs of lard trying to squeeze themselves into an airline seat or posting whiny messages on ze internet.

tazzygirl -> RE: Health Care Act Insurance Mandate Lawful (6/29/2011 2:46:00 PM)

rofl

whiny is not a medical condition... or even a weight condition

provfivetine -> RE: Health Care Act Insurance Mandate Lawful (6/29/2011 4:27:10 PM)

The individual mandate is the cornerstone of this whole bill. Without it, the whole thing crumbles like a house of cards. If the individual mandate gets struck down, but the rest of the bill is allowed to stand (a situation that I think is far-fetched, since I'm under the impression that if one part/clause/aspect of the bill is found unconstitutional then the whole thing has to be thrown out. Maybe someone has insight regarding this?) then the whole system will collapse very quickly. If insurance companies cannot deny someone coverage based on pre-existing conditions, then there is no point in getting insurance in the first place; just wait until you get sick/hurt/injured and then buy the insurance and save yourself the cost of the premium. Of course, insurance cannot work this way since everyone would be taking out claims while putting no premium income into the pot.

tazzygirl -> RE: Health Care Act Insurance Mandate Lawful (6/29/2011 4:31:32 PM)

Thats the crux of the whole thing. This wont be a law that will be stricken in part. It has to be all or none. If its none, then we go back to the way things were, with insurance companies ruling health care.

Weigel points out the significance of today's 6th Circuit Court decision upholding the constitutionality of health care reform:

This is a big deal. It's not just that "a court" found that the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act is constitutional. It's that the judge, Jeffrey Sutton, was appointed by George W. Bush. This is the first time a Bush appointee has sided with the administration on the ACA.

Grasping at straws. this and all other decisions upholding became moot with the first decision of unconstitutionality. The SCOTUS isnt going to keep score of how many did or didnt uphold it.
