Am I the only dumb ass here,   lol.

I hate typing on the laptop.  I have a problem where my palm just so slightly brushes over the touch pad and suddenly I am typing in a random spot on the page.  It drives me nuts, I hate on the laptop.

Anyone else ever have problems are am I just the dunce of the group.  [:D]

You're not a dunce... it's a common problem.  I've taken to turning mine off and using a USB mouse.  I don't like the touch pad anyway.

I just bought a new laptop today and man it's nice. Keypad to the right and everything.

$500 at Wally. I don't like buying stuff from them as much as I used to but it was a good deal and this thing is almost as big as my desktop computer and just as powerful. I did hate typing on a laptop but not so much anymore.

Quad Core Amd-4GB Mem-500GB Hard Drive and 17 inch monitor.

They've got some pretty decent packages for laptops now.  Mine is a fairly inexpensive Toshiba that I bought a couple of years ago and it works just fine for how I use it.  Of course, it only gets pulled out seven or eight times a year for traveling, and then only for checking email and browsing the internet.  If I had to do any real work on it, I think I'd end up pulling my hair out.  I've only got 2 gigs of memory on it and no keypad... but the worst thing is I don't think I could live working off of only a single monitor for any length of time!

Since Firm can't get by for as long as I can without having to do real work while we're traveling, his laptop requirements are higher than mine.  He finally upgraded his earlier this year to one with an i7 processor with 8GB of DDR3.  He solved the single monitor problem by adding a USB mobile LCD monitor to use with it.  I didn't even know they had such a thing, but it's pretty cool... when packed up, it looks just like one of those leather notepad binders you see attorneys use.

Sad part is, that is a real sacrifice for him... he typically works with three 23" monitors, and wants more!  I'm going to have to figure out how to mount them on top of one another as he has no more desk space.   [;)]

Having the right furniture can matter.  Mine is on a commercial disk with a commercial grade chair.

You wouldn't believe me if I told you how many commercial chairs we've gone through trying to find one that Firm would like.  I finally gave up trying to buy him a "desk chair".   His current incarnation is a plush, black leather, swivel recliner on a custom wood base with rollers.  The man is seriously spoiled.  [:)]

I got a wireless mouse & turned off the keypad on the laptop because I have that problem also. I do enjoy it when a friend tries to use the keypad. I like to see how hard they'll thump it before telling them it's turned off. But I'm kinda mean that way. The last one who did it was yelling "What's the matter with this thing?" so much that she couldn't hear me telling her it was turned off. *snickersnort*

Satisfied, not "spoiled".

Here is "the throne" that Treasure actually made for me (that woman is good with her hands ... among other body parts ...)  [:)]

edited to add:

Attached the photo, but it was way to big, even after I had reduced it down a lot.  The forum won't let you preview an attached graphic.  It does allow you to delete it, but then it won't let you upload a replacement.   I just did it in a new post.

laptop smaptop. the only way to fly is wireless keyboard n mouse and in my bedroom 26 in flat screen hooked to a puter. 40" flat screen hooked up in den. The other nice thing is you can stream or download your fav movies or shows. So you can disconnect the cable TV @ 100 bucks a month. Ive not had a cable bill in a couple year now

Everyone who stops by wants my setup

Truthfully I hardly ever used the laptop outside of the house and if I am hooking up another mouse and keyboard I would just as soon be sitting at the desktop.

The Mrs on the other hand likes the laptop so it all works out around the house.

I just stick to using the laptop when I have too as now it has come to the point that the kids need their own computers so they stay off mine.  [:D]

I have never bought a new laptop before this one because I wasn't impressed with the specs on most of the ones for the amount I wouldn't mind dishing out. The more expensive ones were always nice but just too much when I could get the same thing in a desktop for half as much. With my new move planned, I'll need something portable and still powerful enough to do my design work without it sucking all of the power out of my home battery system to run it. The prices have went down so far that I was able to buy a laptop put together for the same price I built my desktop for 3 years ago--minus the high end video card (That's the only place the laptop is weak on but I won't need the video power I have now for various reasons).

Ya know, I had multiple monitors at one time but at the time I wasn't impressed with the way it looked together..The new seamless ones or the larger screens are where it's at for me. I bought a 42" plasma awhile back for a work monitor but I sit too close so that was a pain having to twist my neck left and right 1000's of times a day so I could do my work lol..both me and the customers got a laugh off of it [:D]. It's now an upstairs TV.

A lap top is not required to be placed on ones lap.   You can set it on a desk.

Yeah, but try getting a desk on a train or plane...
